PLUS is supporting the government’s move to ban big lorries on highways to and from Kuala Lumpur during peak hours, starting from February 19.
“PLUS supports the government’s initiative to implement the expansion of this ban. The move is a progressive step towards raising safety level, helping reduce traffic congestion and smoothen traffic flow in Klang Valley and KL city, especially during peak hours on work days,” the company said in a statement.
“PLUS is always committed to support and work together with LLM and other government agencies to ensure smooth flow on the highways. This move is in line with PLUS’ mission to improve safety and provide a safe and comfortable to all highway users,” it added.
Of the highways included in this regulation, the North South Highway, NKVE and Elite highways are under PLUS, and the concessionaire says that it has erected signage at strategic locations to provide clear guidance to drivers of heavy vehicles.
Actually, the rule has been in place on the PLUS North South Highway and the connected NKVE, specifically on the Sungai Buloh – Bukit Lanjan stretch (KM456.0 to KM459.3, both bounds) and from Shah Alam to Jalan Duta (KM9 to KM31, both bounds), for the morning peak period (6.30 to 9.30 am).
The same rule will now apply for the evening rush hours, from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. In addition, the Elite Highway (Shah Alam to Bandar Saujana Putra, KM1.03 to KM16.2, both bounds) and DUKE Highway are now included in the lorry ban, for both morning and evening peak hours (similar to NKVE). Heavy vehicles involved in cleaning and domestic waste disposal, emergency services, law enforcement and highway maintenance are exempted.
Naturally, the lorry associations aren’t happy – here’s what they have to say.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Good luck banning lorries during peak hours, Residential dwellers do enjoy the melody horn lorries blasting along NKVE during off-peak hours especially at night until sunrise KeK
Ban the heavy vehicle that deliver our food and groceries… then the people use small car to deliver food.. more jam…
This is a stupid idea frm people who are not involved in business in their life. The best way to stop congestion is to remove bottleneck caused by bad highway design.
Why this year lorries was not stopped from running during CNY? PH Gomen sudah masuk poket dorang?
Not a good idea! I normally see. Long distance trucker taking breaks in highway rest area at midnight until 530am. When they resume drive to final destination especially towards Klang valley. Goods need to arrive at factory or warehouse by morning when work hours start. That’s being efficient and giving our drivers sufficient rest B4 enter congested areas. The issue of poor driving skills, reckless driver and poorly maintained trucks is a problem to solve but not by this measure
Expand the highway from 3 lane to 4,5 or 6 lane
