PLUS is supporting the government’s move to ban big lorries on highways to and from Kuala Lumpur during peak hours, starting from February 19.

“PLUS supports the government’s initiative to implement the expansion of this ban. The move is a progressive step towards raising safety level, helping reduce traffic congestion and smoothen traffic flow in Klang Valley and KL city, especially during peak hours on work days,” the company said in a statement.

“PLUS is always committed to support and work together with LLM and other government agencies to ensure smooth flow on the highways. This move is in line with PLUS’ mission to improve safety and provide a safe and comfortable to all highway users,” it added.

PLUS supports highway peak hour lorry ban – signs on the North-South Highway, NKVE and Elite are up

Of the highways included in this regulation, the North South Highway, NKVE and Elite highways are under PLUS, and the concessionaire says that it has erected signage at strategic locations to provide clear guidance to drivers of heavy vehicles.

Actually, the rule has been in place on the PLUS North South Highway and the connected NKVE, specifically on the Sungai Buloh – Bukit Lanjan stretch (KM456.0 to KM459.3, both bounds) and from Shah Alam to Jalan Duta (KM9 to KM31, both bounds), for the morning peak period (6.30 to 9.30 am).

The same rule will now apply for the evening rush hours, from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. In addition, the Elite Highway (Shah Alam to Bandar Saujana Putra, KM1.03 to KM16.2, both bounds) and DUKE Highway are now included in the lorry ban, for both morning and evening peak hours (similar to NKVE). Heavy vehicles involved in cleaning and domestic waste disposal, emergency services, law enforcement and highway maintenance are exempted.

Naturally, the lorry associations aren’t happy – here’s what they have to say.
