Puspakom insists it’s compliant with JPJ inspection regs after accused of failing lorries unreasonably

Puspakom has stressed that its vehicle inspections strictly follow the methods and protocols set by the road transport department (JPJ). This comes amid accusations that it has been failing vehicles unfairly, Bernama reports.

Chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman said the company has no authority to change the JPJ’s protocols, and doing so would open it up to potential fines from the department.

“Although there are views that faded load stickers are not related to road safety, Puspakom must still comply with the instructions from the authorities,” he said in a statement yesterday.

This was in response to comments made by Sibu Lorry Association secretary Augustine Paat, calling for greater transparency after its members complained of unreasonable failures, including for faded load stickers.

Mahmood dismissed those allegations, saying that all vehicle owners should be aware of the regulations they must meet. “Bringing non-compliant vehicles for inspection shows a lack of responsibility towards the regulations. This is an attitude problem we need to address,” he said.

He added that all parties must cooperate to ensure safety by going through inspections that are transparent, professional and in line with JPJ’s regulations.

Puspakom has been in the news in the past month after the transport ministry and JPJ ended its monopoly by appointing three new vehicle inspection service (PPKM) suppliers.

To be honest, there is a service that offers lorry owners the option to rent new tires for PUSPAKOM inspection. After passing the inspection, these lorry owners switch back to their old tires. Their reason for doing this is to cut costs, but the right word is actually greed—they want to maximize their profit margins and avoid spending more on lorry maintenance.

In the first place ,it is the greatest folly of JPJ to privatise vehicle inspections to a monopoly.
Now due to intense scrutiny when rotten lorries r “lulus” by Puspakom, now Puspakom wayang..sikit sikit ..”gagal”.
B4 the backlash, runners and corrupt Puspakom testers are having a field day.Every condemned tak lulus vehicle, suddenly lulus.
The DRB CEO should resign for tolerating all these shit under his watch.Memalukan.Tiada maruah langsung.

You clearly have not been following the news stories. More than 30 have been removed from service since this CEO’s tenure in 2023. Google for his interviews since January.

Having said that, the new players will face the same problem. This is about demand. And the demand is there. People want the permit without having to pay through their noses for proper maintenance, new tyres and brake repairs. YouTube is full of local videos of the same people showing how to cheat the system.

Not just demand. No moral values or civic responsibility coupled with a total lack of enforcement. Why follow the law when businesses offering this service have no chance of being prosecuted/are able to pay their way out of it/can tarik kabel because they know someone. Human beings are the same everywhere. No threat of big stick = bad behaviour.

He’s right. You know the rules, you bring non compliant vehicles, then you blame Puspakom? Malaysians are just too much.

Know the rules. Faded load sign on truck shows poor maintenance attitude and disregard for meeting regulations. That kind of complaint can bring up. Shameful la
