Perseus – British EV brand to roll out compact SUV based on existing European OEM platform in late-2027

A new electric vehicle brand has emerged. Perseus, a British-headquartered premium passenger-car EV brand has announced a compact SUV as its debut model that will go on sale in European markets by late-2027.

Led by founder, chairman and CEO Mohammed Yehya El Bakkali, Perseus aimed to position itself as the UK’s leading premium mass-market EV brand, it said in a statement. The brand’s core team includes former senior executives from Jaguar Land Rover, Lotus, Bentley and Ineos Automotive, it added.

The build of its first EV product will be on a licensed EV platform from a European OEM group – which should mean an existing EV architecture – according to Perseus, while an Italian design and engineering firm will take charge of exterior and interior styling, development, prototyping, serial engineering, testing and validation.

A European contract manufacturer will be engaged to expedite the market launch of Perseus’ first EV model, which the company says is “fully flexible and scalable”. Perseus is also partnering with a world-leading specialist in human-machine interface, artificial intelligence (AI) technology and automotive software, from which Perseus aims to provide “best-in-class user experience”, it says.

The companies associated with Perseus have yet to be named, though the firms which fit the bill could be Italian design firm Pininfarina and Austrian contract manufacturer Magna Steyr.

Meanwhile, sales of its product will be through a direct-to-consumer model, where it will combine an online sales platform and brand experience centres to reduce distribution costs, says Perseus. More details on the brand’s strategic partnerships and senior leadership team will be disclosed in the coming months, followed by updates on the upcoming electric SUV, according to the company.

Haha, need to show the founder’s name and picture to assure people this is not another China-owned company.
