A Chinese tyre maker is being investigated by Thailand’s industry ministry for allegedly smuggling defective tyres into the country and modifying them for resale as new tyres, reports The Nation Thailand.
Said tyres apparently had their original logos or brand names removed, and new branding printed on them before going on sale in Thailand. According to an unnamed source from the ministry, many of them were labelled ‘Made in Thailand’ and intended for export.
“The ministry fears that if these substandard tyres are exported under the guise of Thai-made products, it could severely impact Thailand’s image in global markets,” the source said, adding that although the firm, whose name is withheld pending the investigation, holds investment privileges for producing tyres in Thailand using China-imported raw materials, it apparently has an all-Chinese workforce.
Having received tip-offs, the ministry sent a team to inspect the firm’s factory, where the allegedly modified tyres were found stored among locally-produced tyres marked ‘for export only’. It is awaiting the company’s official explanation.

Good example of copy and paste ?
This explains the flood of sub-RM200 Thai-branded tyres that are widely sold on Shopee and Lazada
Where there is demand, there will be supply. Personally, I have used Chinese brands like Leao, Sailun and Linglong. Sure, they are not as good as well known brands but they are also cost effective. I prefer going to tire shops so I can check the tire manufacturing date, instead of ordering online.
Fake manufacturing dates in the case of these tyres. Good luck
the question is what are the authorities going to do about it? for example, the collapsed building in bangkok using substandard steel … no action taken.
After earthquake building collapse now Thai authorities are clamping down on China substandard imports. Before this why didnt they stop this firm importing fake tyres? Im sure this is not new.
That’s a building under construction for Thailand National Audit. Someone in the Thai government must have knew about the substandard steel or might even approved the use for “monetary” reasons.
Don’t rely too much on rumours created by business arch- rivals.
They don’t have to smuggle substandard tyres. They are selling it the legal way and ignorant people are buying it happily.
