Proton has announced it delivered – as a group – 13,918 vehicles in the month of March 2025, which is a 23.9% increase from the 11,232 units reported for February 2025. The March 2025 figure is also 9.6% more than the same corresponding month in 2024, although this includes Proton vehicles as well as smart and eMas electric vehicles (EVs), which wasn’t the case last year.
The local automaker forecasts its market share last month to be 19.4% from an estimated total industry volume (TIV) of 71,596 units. In terms of year-to-date (YTD) numbers, Proton ended the first quarter of 2025 with deliveries totalling 35,068 units, which is equivalent to a market share of 18.9% based on a TIV of 184,652 units.
The eMas 7 got a fair amount of praise prior to this announcement, with 797 units delivered in March 2025 for a YTD total of 1,853 units to become the best-selling EV in Malaysia. Other models mentioned include the S70, which saw sales increase by 77.5% from February 2025 to reach 2,125 units in March 2025. With a YTD total of 4,465 units, Proton says the S70 remains the C-segment sedan leader in the country.
Meanwhile, sales of the X90 rose by 73.6% from February 2025 to reach 302 units. Proton did not provide a sales figure for the X90 last month, but the math indicates 174 units were delivered in February 2025. The company says the X90 “remains the dominant model for D-segment SUVs.”
As for the X70, sales of the C-segment SUV hit 746 units in February 2025, while the figure for the month of March 2025 is 835 units. In Proton’s release, it says this is a month-on-month increase of 29.3%, but our calculations indicated it to actually be 11.9%, which the company clarified is the correct figure.
Next up is the evergreen Saga, which broke through the 6,000-unit mark for the first time this year with 6,154 units delivered in March 2025 – this is 22.5% more than the 5,024 units in February 2025. The Persona and Iriz also had their best sales month in March with 1,482 and 337 units sold respectively.
“Proton’s month-on-month sales grew by 23.9% in March, outpacing TIV growth of 12% while sales volume has also gone up by 9.6% over the same month in 2024. We attribute the results to our aggressive sales promotions that fantastic value to all Proton buyers, and the class-leading level of service delivered from an unmatched nationwide network of 3S/4S dealerships,” said Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar.
“Looking ahead towards Q2 in 2025, we predict a continued number of new models being launched that will deliver a bevy of attractive deals, but Proton remains confident our dealership network and commitment to Malaysian car buyers will deliver the best long term ownership experience to our customers,” he added.
On the matter of exports, Proton saw export volume increase by 211% in March 2025 with 417 units compared to February 2025. As a result, total export sales for Q1 2025 are now 11.4% more than the same corresponding period in 2024, with the Saga leading the way with 410 units shipped to overseas markets.

What the sale figure for X50?
The best-selling Proton SUV however remains the Proton X50. With 1,858 units sold in March its YTD sales for the first quarter of 2025 are 5,117 units.
Monthly 300 unit sales for X90,is a massive failure.
DRB has to pay royalty to Geely for “paste and copy”.
If Proton has 400 outlets…only 75% of these outlets sell only 1 unit of X90 in March.
No wonder P1 malu announce the 174 unit sales for Feb.
Its almost 10 years since Proton partnership with Geely of 50.1/49.9 equity.
1. Proton sales improved by some margin but still failed to be no.1 in Malaysia. Every time Proton sold 2 cars, Perodua registered 3 units.
2. Proton is nowhere in Asean when the dateline to become top 3 manufacturer/producer is only several years away.
3. Geely did not keep its promises of making Malaysia the hub of Asean RHD, which could also serves Australia, Hong Kong and maybe south Asia countries.
I looked at X-90 with serious intent to buy. Nice car EXCEPT for the tiny 3 cylinder engine. Why oh why didn’t they put in a 4 cylinder engine of at least 1500 cc? There’s certainly room for it in the engine compartment. Even if performance not improved that much, psychologically buyer would not feel they are buying a weak car. Dumb decision by Proton .
