BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre – celebrating 50 years with 50 units, M Performance Parts, RM397k

BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre – celebrating 50 years with 50 units, M Performance Parts, RM397k

The BMW 3 Series is 50 years old this year but you wouldn’t have guessed looking at how fit and athletic it is. And to emphasise that point, the BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre is wearing a full catalogue of sportswear.

Made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 3 Series, the Edition 50 Jahre is specially created for Malaysia. Limited to 50 units, it’s priced at RM396,800 on-the-road before insurance, which is RM11k more than the latest MY2025 M340i. That’s the base price in typical BMW fashion – with the BSRI five-year warranty and service package, it’s RM423,200.

The 50 Jahre is based on the highest performance G20 3 Series bar the M3 – the M340i xDrive is powered by a B58 3.0-litre inline-six with 387 hp and 500 Nm of torque, good for 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is capped at 250 km/h.

By the way, M3 aside, the M340i is the only way to get six cylinders in a 3 Series today. This is the one all of us want, price notwithstanding.

Extra kit that makes up the 50 Jahre include M Performance Parts items such as side skirts, centre armrest wrapped in Alcantara and carbon fibre shift paddles. Optioned to match are Sensatec (vegan leather) perforated upholstery in black and Tacora Red, a ‘luxury’ instrument panel (covered in leather) and galvanic buttons.

What’s a special edition without a plaque? You’ll find one on the cup holder lid and an engraving on the exterior B-pillar. Both have ’50 Jahre Edition, 1975-2025, 1 of 50′ as text. There are four colour options – Alpine White, Arctic Race Blue, Black Sapphire and the M Brooklyn Grey you see here.

By the way, the standard M340i’s horizontal dash lines in the kidney grille is gone – it’s all gloss black here as part of the Extended M Shadowline pack. The wheels are 19-inch M light alloys in Style 792 M, and red brake calipers are behind the spokes. These two items – and the slim M rear spoiler – are already on the standard MY2025 M340i.

Other than that, everything else is as per the CKD locally assembled M340i xDrive facelift, which means that you’ll get a BMW Curved Display that integrates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, powered by the latest BMW Operating System 8.5.

Sound comes from a 16-speaker, 464W Harmon Kardon Surround Sound System and the M340i is packaged with Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go Function and Parking Assistant Plus. Check out the regular non-50 Jahre car here. Once again, the M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre is limited to 50 units and priced at RM396,800. What do you think of this special edition?

If you want one, it’s being offered at BMW Shop Online. Visit shop.bmw.com.my, select your preferred colour and dealership, and place a booking fee of RM3,400. The next part of the buying journey will be at your chosen outlet.

Actually a good value for the price given the whole package blending luxury and performance, but too bad stagflation is choking us all out…..

Q: What do you think of this special edition?
A: Nothing special it TBH, just an extra emblem on the door pillar and center console, that’s about it!

Better buy Seal Performance or M3P at half the price. Faster in acceleration and Will be more reliable than BMW.
