Chery Corporate Malaysia has announced it has completed the handover of 50 vehicles loaned to victims involved in the Putra Heights fire on April 1. The Temporary Vehicle Assistance Programme, announced the day after the incident, saw the first batch of 25 vehicles delivered on April 4 and the rest on April 9.
The programme, which appears to involve several Omoda 5s, Tiggo 7 Pros and Tiggo 8 Pros, is meant to assist families that have lost their homes and means of transportation, helping them regain mobility and access essential services such as medical appointments, school runs and daily commutes.
Chery coordinated the distribution of the vehicles with Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han and local authorities, ensuring a smooth and timely rollout.
The cars are being loaned out for a period of one month and include RM100 in fuel assistance for each recipient. Chery also donated RM50,000 to the Putra Heights Mosque to ease its operational burden such as rising utility costs, having served as a temporary evacuation centre for over 80 affected families.
Chery’s move led to similar assistance efforts announced by Carro, Proton, EON, Tan Chong Group and Spanco.
