MG has released teasers of a big, boxy SUV called the Cyber X, which will make its debut at the Auto Shanghai 2025 show next week.
These three images show the Cyber X’s silhouette and its LED lighting signatures. We see full width LED bars at both ends along with illuminated MG logos, prominent square wheel arches and a stepped bonnet that’s higher on the sides. The shape of the Cyber X is upright and boxy, like the Land Rover Defender, and the look MG is trying to achieve is a tough, macho one, like the reborn Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser.
According to Autocar, the Cyber X will sit on parent company SAIC’s latest E3 electric platform designed for everything from compact cars to sports cars. The “first fully electric, system-level architecture” incorporates cell-to-body construction, where the batteries contribute to body rigidity, reducing weight.
This big SUV could very well be an SUV flagship for the MG brand – it also has the ‘Cyber’ name, just like the Cyberster roadster, a sexy flag bearer for the marque.
The Cyberster, which boasts Lamborghini-style electric scissor doors, has dual motors producing 544 PS (400 kW) and 725 Nm, good for 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. A 77 kWh battery provides WLTP-rated range of 444 km. The max rate for DC charging is 144 kW, and going from 10 to 80% SoC takes 38 minutes. Launched in December 2024, the Cyberster is the most attention-grabbing car you can buy for RM320k.
More recently, MG previewed the S5 EV in Malaysia. An ‘MG4 SUV’ and rival to the Proton eMas 7 and BYD Atto 3, it doesn’t look anything like the Cyber X, which should be quite an imposing sight in the metal. Stay tuned for more on MG’s electric SUV flagship.
