Mercedes-Benz has announced it will unveil a new concept vehicle called the Vision V on April 22, 2025 at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show. This will serve as a preview for the brand’s future portfolio of vans that include the new VLE and VLS.
According to the automaker, the VLE and VLS will cater customers who are either looking for flexible family vehicles, exclusive VIP shuttles or luxurious limousines. This makes sense in certain markets where premium MPVs like the Toyota Alphard reign supreme over traditional large premium sedans like the S-Class.
Details of the Vision V are limited for now, but the company says the concept is underpinned by its new VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) that is modular to meet the needs of different customer groups. The platform was announced way back in 2021 alongside other dedicated electric platforms.
Reports indicate the platform features an 800V electrical system and can be optioned with single- or dual-motor configurations, with flagship variants said to deliver over 500 km on a single charge. At launch, the vans will come with Level 2 self-driving systems, with Level 3 and Level 4 features set to go to market later on.
Based on the teasers released so far, the exterior of the Vision V won’t be short of exaggerated design cues that scream “look at me.” The interior also looks to be a nice place to be in, what with its sci-fi ambient lighting, premium-looking materials, comfy seats and even a deployable table large enough for a chess board.
