Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Edition debuts – dark wheels, tint, dashcam, 7-year free service, RM245k

Here’s something from the Malaysia Autoshow (MAS) 2025 that’s not Chinese. The Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Edition is a special edition by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM), and as its name suggests, the hot hatch gets a host of darkened components for a rather sinister look.

The black stuff include 18-inch “Richmond” turbine-style alloy wheels in black. Look closely and you’ll find self-righting GTI centre caps and GTI-branded valve caps. Think Rolls-Royce and Bentley for those centre caps – the logo is always upright.

Elsewhere, you’ll find “Black” emblems on the B-pillars as well as JPJ-compliant ‘VW Tint’ window film. This special edition can be had in either Kings Red or the Deep Black you see here for the full black look.

Inside, the Black Edition receives specially-branded floor mats and a genuine Volkswagen Universal Traffic Recorder 2.0 (dashcam) on the front and back. The camera features a Sony Starvis night-vision image sensor that is said to deliver QHD videos at high speeds even in low-light conditions, along with dual-band 5 GHz WiFi connectivity for faster downloads.

Finally, the boot is fitted with cargo dividers that attach to the floor with velcro. Buyers will also receive a Black Edition box with a Volkswagen key holder and a certificate of authenticity for the car.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Edition is priced at RM246,490 nett (RM247,512 on-the-road without insurance) with the standard two-year warranty, or RM258,990 (RM260,012 on-the-road) with the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) five-year warranty and servicing (the latter extended to seven years here).

That’s RM6,000 more expensive than the standard Mk8 GTI; however, the company is offering a special RM15,000 introductory discount, bringing that figure down to RM243,990 (RM245,012 OTR).
