Zeekr 009 gains Executive variant in Malaysia – FWD; 604 km WLTP EV range; RM310k for first 500 buyers

The Zeekr 009 variant line-up in Malaysia has been expanded to include a new base Executive which joins the existing Luxury and Ultra Luxury. Officially, we’re told the Executive retails for RM310,000 on-the-road without insurance, but this is a special introductory price applicable to the first 500 customers. A “regular” price will be made known after then.

For context, the Luxury is priced at RM349,800, while the Ultra Luxury is RM359,800, which makes the Executive up to RM49,800 cheaper when compared to the latter. However, you will have to make some compromises, starting with the powertrain.

Unlike the other two variants that are all-wheel drive with dual motors rated for 612 PS (603 hp or 450 kW) and 693 Nm of torque, Executive only has a single electric motor at the front making 340 PS (335 hp or 250 kW) and 373 Nm. Unsurprisingly, the 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds is slower than the AWD variants’ 4.5 seconds, although the top speed is identical across the board at 210 km/h.

There is an upside to the reduced outputs, and that is range. The Executive uses the same 116-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery as the AWD variants, enabling a WLTP-rated range of up to 604 km instead of 582 km. AC charging via an 11-kW input will see the battery get from 0-100% in 13.5 hours, while DC fast charging from 10-80% with a 150-kW input needs 30 minutes – the same across the board.

The Executive is a seven-seater like the Luxury and mostly matches it when it comes to equipment. Based on the spec sheet available at the Malaysia Autoshow where Zeekr has a booth, the base variant gets single-chamber air suspension instead of the higher-spec variants’ dual-chamber units. Additionally, the front doors do not have an electronic latch, the steering wheel is manually adjustable instead of powered.

In addition to the Executive variant, the 009 also gains a new exterior colour called Mineral Green that is only available for the Luxury and Ultra Luxury variants. Phantom Black and Crystal White are still offered for the entire range.

What is up with most Automakers only giving cool features, a turbocharged engine,  decent HP , AWD,  a fast-shifting gearbox and big wheels  for  their SUVs, Pickups , MPVs and Minivans lineup, but  giving less features, a noisy NA engine , less HP, a sluggish gearbox  and small wheels for their sedans and Hatchbacks lineup. As a car guy, I feel so sad and disappointed that the fact that nowadays, Automakers just want to focus on making their SUVs , Pickups, MPVs and Minivans cool…. while leaving their sedans and Hatchbacks as boring cars.
If They can give soooo many cool features for their SUVS, Pickups, MPVs and Minivans,
Why can’t they do the same for their sedans and Hatchbacks.

In conclusion , Automakers can make their sedans and Hatchbacks cool, it all depends on whether they want to…or not. As a car guy, Today’s Automotive World is starting to look depressing, because Almost all Automakers are just focusing on making their SUVs, Pickups, MPVs and Minivans cool….. while leaving their sedans and Hatchbacks lineup as boring cars
    Damn very sad.

My thought is planned obsolescence. Sedan, Wagon and Hatchbacks have higher structural integrity, think torsional rigidity. While on paper this will say things about how sporty a vehicle feels, they don’t frequently mention how much longer the interior panels lasts, or how premium the car feels after 15 years.

SUV & MPV degrades much faster, about 6 years and there will be a lot of loose panel sounds in the car. The reasoning is very simple, body flex.

Experiment Time! stick a blue tack on the long side of a tissue box, hold the short side, left hand left side, right hand right side, then twist the like you are trying to dry a towel, count the number of flex it take for the blue tack to fall off, then take another blue tack and stick on a pencil box (lower height, about half), see if you can flex it and if you can, see how many flex it takes for the blue tack to fall off.

Most important thing to remember, when you want your car to last 20 years, it’s not just the potholes, it’s how level the road is, if the flat looking road you drive on daily feels wobbly and vibrates your car, that’s the worst kind of body flex.

Experiment time! Try again with the tissue box, instead of flexing it on both short sides, now hold the same long side of the box, both palm resting on the same flat side, twist inwards till both index finger touches, the top of the tissue box will kemek. That is what uneven roads that looks flat does to your car.

So that’s why I say it’s planned obsolescence, the manufacturers still gives us great cars on paper, yes the metal structure of the vehicles will last more than 10 years, but only the sedan will actually still feels good after 10 years.

Question time! Will you still be able to relax in your SUV or MPV if there’s rattling sounds when it’s more than 5 years old? And can you afford to change cars every 5 years? if your answer yes then buy SUV and MPV, they are very practical. if your answer is No then buy a wagon, it is still the same kind of practical.
