JPJ says it will blacklist foreign motorists for unpaid AWAS summonses starting from this month

The warning issued by the road transport department (JPJ) to blacklist those who fail to settle any compoundable summonses within a stipulated period isn’t just limited to Malaysian motorists. It was earlier announced that motorists issued with AWAS summonses will be given a 60-day grace period from July 1 to settle their fines.

This will also apply to motorists from neighbouring countries, as The Star reports. According to JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the blacklist will also apply to Singapore-registered vehicles through data obtained from the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) records.

He said those who fail to settle their AWAS summonses will be automatically blacklisted on the department’s system. “We will blacklist foreign vehicles based on the VEP and other entry records,” he said.

Earlier, Aedy Fadly said that the department’s records showed that there are still 2.03 million unsettled summonses, with AWAS summonses being the highest at 1.54 million. As reported, the JPJ’s special flat-rate compound payment offer of RM150, which was initially scheduled to end on June 30, has been extended until the end of this year.
