You saw the smart #5 up close at the recent Malaysia Autoshow; now there’s a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version called the smart #5 EHD (Electric Hybrid Drive), as Car News China reports.
All we know for now is that there’s a 163 PS BHE15-CFZ 1.5 litre turbo engine, an over-40 kWh CATL LFP battery, a CLTC fuel economy as low as 4.4 litres per 100 km, a 250-km EV-only range and a 1,600-km combined range. Electric motor output has not been revealed yet.
Length, width, height and wheelbase are respectively 4,705, 1,920, 1,710 and 2,900 mm, while kerb weight is 2,190 kg – quite a lot lighter than the EV variant‘s 2,450 kg. Of course, the EV variant has much bigger batteries – 76 kWh LFP for the RWD and 100 kWh NMC for the AWD.
Looks-wise, wheels aside, the only differences we can spot between this and the EV variant are the roof LiDAR and slightly-different front and rear bumper inserts. More should be revealed soon.
