BMW Motorrad presents “The Speed Sisters” by [WOIDWERK] – custom builds based on R18 and R12

During the recent BMW Motorrad Days 2025 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, two custom built motorcycles were presented, “The Speed Sisters” by [WOIDWERK]. Based on the BMW Motorrad R18 and R12, the Speed Sisters are the brainchild of Ralf Eggl – founder and creative force behind [WOIDWERK].

Eggl’s goal was to present the R18 and R12 as “a custom-built sibling pair – stylistically connected, but deliberately not identical.” Provided with an R18 and an R12 from BMW Motorrad, Eggl set out to highlight the technical and stylistic relationship between the two models but also give each its own distinct identity.

For the R18, the tank was raised and narrowed by 30 mm, with a “floating” seat added, complemented by a targa hoop for styling. Giving the R18 more road presence, a Wilber shock absorber, raising the bike by 20 mm.

Braking was improved with 320 mm brake discs and radial brake calippers taken from the BMW R 1300 GS. A host of custom-designed, CNC-milled, or 3D-printed were added, such as fairing brackets, taillight housing and swingarm end cap with integrated license plate holder, as well as indicator and taillight mounts.

A black ceramic-coated exhaust system by Hattech was added to improve the exhaust sound and accentuate the lines of the R18. The bike is finished off with an individually crafted seat in leather and Alcantara with visible hand-stitching, created by Zinteriors.

Meanwhile, Egil’s interpretation of the R12 was “lightness, agility, and a modern design language.” The rear seat of the R12 was shortened in the classic bobber style for a clean, minimalist look. Rider ergonomics was changed with new handlebar, modified foot pegs, and a custom leather-and-Alcantara seat, for a sporty look.

A custom-made one-off tank cover was made, CAD-designed and 3D-printed, with the Speed Sisters logo emphasising the connection to the R18 sibling. The chassis is raised by 15 mm with a Wilber shock absorber, while a Hatch exhaust system was added, and the taillight design featuring Kellermann Jetstream sequential indicators styled like aircraft wings.

Drawing inspiration from the forests of Bavaria, paintwork by Lackierzentrum Hirsch gave the Speed Sisters a colour scheme symbolising the seasons of the Bavarian Forest. This is a three-quarters white, quarter green scheme, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the region’s famously long winters.

“These are the colors of the Bavarian Forest,” says Ralf Eggl. “As we say here: Three-quarters of the year is winter, and the other quarter is cold – that’s the Bavarian Forest.”

In Malaysia, the BMW Motorrad R18 comes in four model variants, with prices ranging from RM154,500 for the R18 Classic to RM198,500 for the R18 Transcontinental. For the BMW Motorrad R12, there are three colour options offered, with retail pricing set at RM119,500.
