Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell steps down

Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer Adrian Mardell will be leaving the British carmaker, Autocar has reported.

“Adrian Mardell has expressed his desire to retire from JLR after three years as CEO and 35 years with the company. His successor will be announced in due course,” JLR said in an official statement to Autocar India, sighted by the British publication.

Mardell directed the company through a financial turnaround from heavy losses and debt during the pandemic, to posting its best profits in a decade last year, reported Autocar. Mardell had also overseen the group’s House of Brands retail strategy where the Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and Jaguar nameplates were built as their own brands, it added.

Among the most significant moments under Mardell’s tenure was the unveiling of the Jaguar Type 00 concept, which followed its rebranding exercise as a EV-only marque. Speaking to the publication regarding Jaguar’s prospects as an all-electric brand, Mardell said that the brand “will have wait lists which are significant relative to the volumes we aspire for with the first product.”

Alongside the upcoming battery-electric Jaguar, the group has also been readying the Range Rover Electric, a BEV version of the marque’s flagship SUV. The publication wrote that while the Range Rover Electric was originally planned for a sales debut by the end of this year, this has been delayed to 2026, partly to allow demand to increase.
