Jaguar Type 00 concept revealed – two-seater coupé previews four-door GT to debut in 2025; 770 km WLTP

After strong public reaction to its rebranding campaign, Jaguar has unveiled the Type 00 – pronounced ‘zero zero’ – concept that brings an all-new design language ahead of its purely electric range vehicles that will go on sale from late-2025.

The two-door bodystyle of the concept will give rise to a production four-door GT model that will emerge in late 2025, and the production model will be built in the United Kingdom, says Jaguar. Until then, there will be no new Jaguar vehicles sold in the UK.

This new four-door GT model from Jaguar will be underpinned by the EV-dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), and is touted to offer up to 770 km of range on the WLTP test protocol, and will be capable of adding 321 km of battery range in just 15 minutes, according to the brand.

As reflected by the outlines of the development car that was shown testing, the front fascia is upright, with the concept using flush surfaces and featuring the newly Jaguar script. Its side profile draws upon classic proportions with a short front overhang and a longer rear overhang, with a cabin-rearwards stance that harks back to the E-Type Coupé.

Aft of each front wheel is a brass ingot that each houses a rear-facing camera, which remain flush with the bodywork and deploy when required, as with the charging ports and front air intakes. While dimensions have yet to be disclosed, wheels are 23 inches in diameter.

At the rear, the Type 00 dispenses with conventional window glass and instead uses a solid tailgate panel, while the panoramic roof is ‘body-harmonised’, or body-coloured. The tailgate opens in a pantograph manner, while the doors are of a butterfly arrangement.

Inside, the Type 00 features a 3.2 metre-long brass spine that runs the length of the interior, splitting the cabin through the centre while each side gets a floating instrument panel. Three material types are key to the Type 00 cabin – brass, travertine stone and textiles, the second serving as a plinth supporting the floating seats and spine, the latter including wool blends which trim the seats, sound bar and flooring.

The cabin’s ambience can be tailored to different moods through the use of different totems – each made of brass, travertine and alabaster – contained within a prism case, which is stored behind a powered door panel behind the front wheel. Each totem summons a different cabin ambience, offering unique lighting, soundscape and scents for personalisation.

According to Autocar, the four-door GT drawing its design from the Type 00 will be the first of three models in the new era of Jaguar when the production car debuts in late-2025, and all will be on the aforementioned JEA platform; the other two models have been thought to be an SUV, and a large sedan.
