Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The BYD Seal is a C-segment electric sedan for drivers who want a long-range EV with either rear-wheel-drive efficiency or all-wheel-drive pace. Launched in facelifted Mk1 form in 2025, it starts from RM171,800. Both versions use an 82.56 kWh battery and seat five, but their outputs and claimed ranges differ sharply.

Seal in 2026 — what's new

The BYD Seal carries into 2026 unchanged; no 2026-specific Malaysian Seal update is announced. The current facelift range remains the rear-wheel-drive Premium and dual-motor all-wheel-drive Performance. Changes introduced with this version include new 19-inch multi-spoke wheels with 235/45 tyres, a powered sunroof blind, a driver-side sunglasses compartment and phone-as-a-key functionality. The Performance also brings DiSus-C adaptive suspension to the discussion.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should take the RM171,800 Premium. Its single-motor rear-wheel-drive layout produces 308 hp and has the longer 570 km claimed range, so it is the rational Seal for distance use. Pay RM191,800 for the Performance if 523 hp and dual-motor all-wheel drive matter more than range; its claim falls to 520 km. The RM10,000 gap buys substantially more power and AWD, not a larger battery.

Verdict

The Seal is a properly quick electric sedan with a useful 82.56 kWh battery and two clear characters. Premium is the less expensive, longer-range choice, while Performance is for buyers who will use its 523 hp and all-wheel drive. At RM171,800, the entry Seal costs more than the RM149,000 Tesla Model 3 and sits close to the Dongfeng 007 and GWM Ora 07, so cross-shopping is essential.
