Overview
The BYD Seal is a five-seat compact executive electric sedan for buyers who want a long-range EV with either rear- or all-wheel drive. Launched in 2025 in facelifted Mk1 form, it starts from RM171,800. Both versions use an 82.56 kWh battery and a single-ratio automatic transmission, but their outputs and claimed ranges differ.
Seal in 2026 — what's new
The Mk1 facelift carries into 2026 unchanged, with Premium and Performance variants continuing the range. No 2026-specific BYD Seal update is announced. The facelift brings new multi-spoke 19-inch wheels with 235/45 tyres, a powered sunroof blind, a driver’s sunglasses compartment and phone-as-key access. Premium remains the longer-range rear-wheel-drive choice; Performance retains all-wheel drive and higher output.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should pick Premium at RM171,800. Its 308 hp rear-wheel-drive layout and 570 km claimed range make it the rational version, while it shares the 82.56 kWh battery and five-seat cabin with its sibling. Spend RM191,800 on Performance only if 523 hp and all-wheel drive matter more than maximum range; its claim falls to 520 km. The RM20,000 gap is substantial, so check the equipment list before paying it.

Verdict
The facelift gives the Seal useful everyday additions: a powered sunroof blind, phone key and sunglasses compartment, alongside 19-inch wheels. Premium’s 570 km claim and RM20,000 saving make it the clearer everyday proposition. Price needs consideration: the entry Seal costs RM22,800 more than the Tesla Model 3 and RM1,912 more than the Dongfeng 007. Performance answers with 523 hp and AWD, but sacrifices 50 km of claimed range.
