Next gen Infiniti M set for virtual 3D debut?

Infiniti M
Current generation Infiniti M – due to be replaced soon!

New and cool ways of launching products are a sure way of getting more attention to your product in a sea of press releases. The word is that despite not having an actual showcar model of the next generation Infiniti M-series ready yet, it will be displaying a foam mold model at the Pebble Beach show coming up in August.

Now you might be thinking, what’s the use of a foam mold? Wouldn’t that only show the overall silhouette of the car? Here’s the unique part – apparently Infiniti will be using 3D projection systems to project a digital rendering of the next generation M onto the mold.

The Infiniti M is currently available as the M35 and M45, and is Infiniti’s rear wheel drive answer to the 5-Series, E-Class, GS, A6, and etc. The car is known as the Nissan Fuga in Japan, where the Infiniti brand is not present, like how the Infiniti G is known as the Nissan Skyline and most recently, the Infiniti EX as the Skyline Crossover.

The top of the range next generation M will most likely be called the Infiniti M50, featuring the VK50VE 5.0 litre V8 producing 390 horses and 500Nm of torque, while the baseline could either be an M35 or an M37 featuring either a 3.5 litre V6 or a 3.7 litre V6 respectively. The 3.7 litre did not really phase out the 3.5 litre and both engines seem to be in use concurrently in the Nissan stables.

What this is basically is a high end BMW 5 series with the price of a Hyundai.

I don't see anything wrong with them. Having sampled a few examples of them (the G35/G35x and the awesome understated Q45) they do give buyers an alternative for a sporty Japanese supersaloon.

I prefer the interiors of the Infiniti, they are much more sporty yet luxurious than than the equivalent Acura.

Infiniti always had that querky design. From the oddball J30 to the animalistic FX SUVs, they do really stand out.

    KT.

Where these are sold, cars as status symbols are less important. People want better value for their car purchase. This gives these relatively newcomers in the luxury class a biting chance. Just because you are BMW or Mercedes, doesn't mean people will buy you on default.

But lets face it, in these times of platform sharing, anything developed good enough for Inifity would probably eventually filter down to its lesser Nissan cars. (case in point the Camry and Lexus ES300, Lexus gets economies of scale, and the Camry got a better platform to work with )

if the pricing is not too far away… people will choose continental car of course. Nissan brand name still far behind Lexus, not to mention the B's and A.

What's up with the multiple names.. Just call your small car 3, your executive sedan 5, and limo 7…. Don't understand Japs and their so many names for one car.

Somehow after reading the piece on the RR Ghost, this one seems stale.

Anyway stick with the Germans in this class and you'll not go wrong. 5 series for driving and MBenz for comfort. Thats it.

If its like a BMW 5 series with a Hyundai price then I don't care what brand it is. I am just afraid that this is wannabe 5 series which is nowhere near with Hyundai price.

Acura is just a rebadge honda with lots of goodies you don't normally find on a honda

    A very beautiful car.

Friend of mine driven his friend 2.4 Accord and he claim he cannot overtake the Gen2 in front of him. And now my uncle confirmed his 2.4 Accord 5 speed Auto is like no power in north south highway

    A beautiful car and powerful.

Most of the nissan car come with strong and efficient engine. My 3rd uncle own Sentra 1.8, and this one feel more powerful than the Accord 2.4 (own by my youngest uncle). We suspect the 5 speed auto gearbox contribute to under power feel when traveling in north south highway.
