Well, it’s all hot like burning where Subaru’s BRZ is concerned. The Nikkei reports that its maker, Fuji Heavy Industries, swamped with orders and unable to keep up with production, is set to push back Japanese market deliveries of the vehicle to January 2013.
Production of the BRZ, developed with Toyota and twin sister to the latter’s GT 86, began last month on March 16 at Subaru’s Gunma factory in Ota-city, Japan, where the GT 86 is also being built.
The car went on sale in Japan on March 28, and delaying shipments to next year after just two weeks or so being on the market is an extremely rare situation for sports cars, which draw limited demand, the report adds.
Orders for the BRZ are now about four times as much as what Fuji Heavy had expected. The car made its ASEAN debut in Singapore earlier this month, where Danny managed to get up close and personal with it, albeit all too briefly for his liking. The Toyota 86 is set to make its way here soon too, what with pricing announced and order books opened – at this rate, Japanese 86 buyers might be set to face delivery shortages too!

Pisang panasss…but too bad pricing here like golden pisang..
Provided that there’s someone silly enough to pay more than RM200,000 for a Toyota. Then again, this is Malaysia.
the demand for this car is expected….but not in malaysia with such a high price…
why the hype…..it has the right ingredient for sports car…..RWD, low seating positing, low center gravity engine, light weight and sufficient power = fun to drive….
first subaru rwd in history – that’s the hype in japan
with the silly pricing Toyota has speculated, it wont sell ! This is supposed to be an average joe’s fun sports car like the AE86 many years ago .
If you buy it at the speculated price or more ,the minute it steps out of the showroom 50% of value is gone ! simply because this car is not worth that much !
I think it’s less about if it’s worth that much.. more like Toyota shot themselves in the foot putting too much junk on the car. It’s like you buy a laptop and the manufacturer pre-loaded it with crapware…
Sure some may argue and say they want those things, but I thought the 86 is supposed to be for the average enthusiast, not just for the rich.
Just read Chris Ng’s article on 2 Apr:
Smart entry system – waste of money
Dual zone aircond – damn, just give me one that automatic cuts off compressor when I accelerate..
hill-start assist – enthusiast’s car! if you can’t go up a hill the car isn’t for you!
touch screen control/6 speaker – for goodness sake CD/MP3 player and 2 speakers is enough!
auto-dimming mirror – the flip is much cheaper….
etc etc…
Fine… if toyota is going to put all those stuff in… why not have a basic version? I don’t care about leather, I just want a fabric bucket seat. They’re putting in features that’s suppose to be in a Camry in a sport car…
i can presume the brokers are already storing up this car and gonna sell to desperate people who need this car immediately at a premium (common practice for ferraris)
whatever the pricing, its a fugly car. It is as if TOYOTA thought, waaait a min, since this is the pricing for this car, it should not be designed as cool as a LEXUS, thus u also see the same fugly designs on TOYOYA mass cars now. MEGANE is good, this? A waste of metal and a good engine block too.
i think the design process in toyota overall goes like this:
– designers designs and scribble in a centralize location
– boss comes in, goes thru the designs, and separates good ones to LEXUS, bad ones to TOYOTA
– so this one is between a LEXUS good and a TOYOTA ugly… = fugly
Get a grip TOYOTA. i don’t care how good it drives. I am paying 200++k I expect good design sense. But there will be buyers. So the saying goes, money can’t buy GOOD TASTE.. pls do not get me started on prev BMW 3 series. Plissssss.
Tan Chong under Motor Image should consider CKDed it at Serendah or Segambut too I think so.
Which one to choose. BRZ or 86?
Ah hah! Subaru tune the BRZ 2hp higher @7K rpm compared to 86.
Toyota’s are good cars, depends what model you buy as they make the cheapest basic car to a lexus…they are super reliable, my 01 mr s is a joy to own and not even once gave me an issue 11 years since it left the factory..250k is too high as the duties are heavy on 2dr cars in malaysia considering import duty is zero for jap made autos since our free trade agreement with japan.
japan should prepares itself a contingency plan for second coming wave of mother nature wrath…
