BMW Zinoro logoBMW has announced a new electric vehicle brand for the Chinese market called Zinoro, which will be launched at the Guangzhou Motor Show in November.

The sub-brand’s first offering is reportedly based on the BMW X1 (perhaps the particular X1 that was spied last week), and will be built at BMW Brilliance Automotive’s Tiexi plant in Shenyang. The companies indicated that exports of Zinoro-badged vehicles to other markets – if the brand takes off – is under consideration.

Zinoro, which is supposed to mean “honouring promises,” won’t sell its vehicles through the BMW network, but through its own channels, allowing clear differentiation between its offerings and the BMW i3 and i8 EVs that will eventually go into that market.
