BMW X1 ActiveHybrid spied, or is this an X1 EV?

bmw-x1-ev-5

This BMW X1 snapped in Europe by our spy photographer CarPix may look like any other X1 at first, but take a closer look and you’ll see a small white sticker on the door that says “Hybrid Test Vehicle”.

That points to the possibility that BMW is testing a “BMW X1 ActiveHybrid” model. But hybrid or not, something is odd about the rear end of this particular X1 – there are no exhaust tailpipes! And we all know that BMW’s ActiveHybrid system still requires exhaust tailpipes because of the 3.0 litre TwinPower Turbo combustion engine component of the system.

So the question is, are we actually looking at an EV version of the BMW X1, and is this a testbed vehicle for a future SUV-styled BMW i zero emissions electric model?

B-class looks better, interior is larger and is cheaper than X1.

The B class is on a different segment…its a sports tourer/large hatchback while the X1 is a crossover/SAV which can be specified with the xDrive.

  • Why not 2.0L….then we can enjoy the cheaper & greener car….2.0T+Hybrid for a small car is powerfully enough…

  • Wow. No tailpipes. Full EV. Nice. Im already sold with the 63liter of diesel fuel can go up to 1244km. New 8speed gearbox is superb. Now this? Time to save more money.

I don’t think we’ll see many EV’s on our roads just yet. The infrastructure for nation wide implementation isn’t ready yet. Hybrids are a better choice at the moment…at least we still have a combustion engine when our batteries are fully used up.
