We thought Honda was going to debut the production Civic Type R at the ongoing Geneva show; turns out it’s only a concept. Still, since the real McCoy’s due next year, you can expect the Honda Civic Type R concept you see here not to be too far from the truth.
The “racing car for the road” is the most hardcore Honda Civic Type R yet, and many of the styling features you see here are functional. The two-tier rear wing’s shape and angle is the result of Nurburgring track testing, and the enlarged upper and lower front grilles, along with the bonnet louvres, provide cooling. Front and rear wings have been widened to accommodate 20-inch wheels, with integrated outlets to optimise airflow.
The Honda Civic Type R will be the first model in Europe to use one of the new VTEC TURBO engines from the Earth Dreams range. The direct-injected 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo lump is expected to deliver at least 280 PS, while being Euro 6-compliant. First Type R to be turbocharged, too. Earlier teaser images revealed a 7,000-rpm redline – not stratospheric for a Type R but pretty respectable for a turbo.
Honda is targeting the Nurburgring record for FWD cars with this one – an early prototype has been evaluated on the track, where it set a time “approaching the lap record” currently held by the Renault Megane RS 265 Trophy.
Also in Geneva at the moment is the powertrain layout of the 2015 NSX and the next-gen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) concept, which makes its Continental debut. The production FCEV will be on sale in Europe from early 2016, Honda has confirmed.

honda…take my money…
Im throwing money on the screen but nothing is happening!
If honda cn slot d engine into d accord, n gives birth to an accord type s / sport, thatll b great
Nice! Rocket for the road. Doubt we’d get this here though…
This new civic will be build in Malaysia soon…
However, for the type-R, the car will be produced by Honda Thailand! 19inch rim
yummy…i hope we will get our hands on this rather than a sedan version like previous type-R
Nice car!!! Can’t wait for the new NSX though.. mid-engine ftw!!!
the masterpiece, hopefully Honda Malaysia will bring this car as they sell the fd2r back then.
Should be in white body with white wheels.
There was an era where Japanese is comparable with the European. But today, its clear that the Japs are paying obeisance to the Euros on design wise(DRL, masculine external design, etc) and performance, mainly in engine efficiency. Why the Japs gave in? They even lost to Korean much up-trend fluidity design. Compare the Kia K5 and Toyota Camry and you know what im trying to say.
because they get lazy.japs has been ‘westernized’.if they go for a war, they will get busy with health and safety checklist instead of screaming kamikaze
can it beat the current or discontinued Honda Civic Typer FN2/FD2 the record?!
All I love about Honda in one car. Okay it’s no longer the
My reaction: http://gifatron.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/applauding.gif
rev crazy lunatic that it use to be but personally, it ticks all the box on what makes great Japanese car…..great. Mecha face? Check, large rear wing? Check, battleship cannons for exhaust? Check. Unrefine and in-yer-face aura? Check.
Turbo just kicked in yo
Finally! a torquey type R!!
spectacular concept sport car. i realized that the tail lamp at the spoiler. led i think, very nice.
hopefully will see in Malaysia, 2016.
In terms of design, this is a lot better than the dull-looking German hatches. Hope it comes with 8 speed double clutch gearbox since it is no more a redline-snuffing type R. No point of having manuals especially here in Malaysia. Manual cogs are best enjoyed with that stratospheric 9000rpm FC22 of S2000. Since they have went turbo and pursuing lap records, why don’t include double clutch anyway?
Because this car ain’t for hairdressers. Only real drivers need to apply.
I’ve no critic or complaint but just one suggestion, pls make this Euro R compliant with minimum RON 97!!!! Unlike FD2R, owner must pump in RON 100 in order to get 225ps. So if we pump V-power also and put on dyno is only 199ps only.
Why does the first thing that comes to my mind after glancing it is…”Jazz”?
It looks like a hyped up Jazz to me. Zzz
Shut up and take my money!
Toyota has did this 20 years ago on the celica. LoL!
I feel You Honda.
That’s a lot of firepower for the Type R and its supposed to beat the Megane around the ring. I guess with increase horsepower comes an increase of price too…
Finally Honda Vtec Turbo kicked in YO!Amazing type r.Can’t wait for it to be on sale in malaysia. Now Honda has done the type r the Right way!
Honda, the power of dreams.
My best guess, when(if) it reaches here, the price will be about RM220k, is that about right?
this is type R euro spec..malaysia spect not more different with the current civic fb
LMAO! At last, Honda has their own direct injection turbo engine. Volkswagen had the same tech since 2005. That’s equates to about 10 years behind (assuming it will start selling in 2015).
If you watch some of the video of this type r taken in geneva, this concept model is designed in Swindon lead by Japanese designer, working together with engineers in nurburgring and japan. So this shouldnt be an euro type r like the FN2, instead a real JDM type r. In addiction this concept having Brembo caliper like FD2 as well. I would expect the superb handling like or even better than FD2 also since they name it a racing car on road instead a high performance road car.
Great car. It makes the current gen civic sedan that we had looks like crap!
