What’s this, pickup season? We’ve just had spyshots of the new Nissan Navara D23 that’s set to make its global debut in Thailand next week – now various Thai forums have yielded spyshots of what could be the 2015 Toyota Hilux undergoing on-road testing in the Kingdom.
Despite the heavy camo, we can just about guess what the front grille could look like. Two horizontal bars appear to intrude into the headlamps, themselves looking slimmer and more wrap-around than before – pretty Corolla Altis-like, actually.
The body appears to be more angular on the whole; the back of the cab curves inwards in a style similar to the Mitsubishi Triton, but much less severely.
Our guess is the 2.5 and 3.0 litre four-cylinder diesels with variable-nozzle turbos (VNT) could soldier on, as could the robust five-speed manual gearbox.
But where the auto is concerned, will the four-speeder stay in office for another term, or could we get a new six-speeder instead? Only foremost Hilux enthusiast Mr Loo knows.

But anyways vois, I admire your X-ray Vision to be able to look through the disguised truck photographed in low resolution and come to the conclusion that it has an Altis face cellophane taped to the front.
And yes, we all need beautiful design trucks so we can buy it put it on a plinth and dsiplay it, It can be unreliable, expensive to maintained and unable to go off-road but it must be beautiful.

Why are all new pick-ups specs below the new ford ranger/BT50? The 3.2 Ranger is rated at 200hp, 470NM,,with many modern tech features. Have they sold out to Ford Motors? and accept defeat…certainly the sale reports are showing this. This Hilux looks like another face uplift,the new Navarra NP300 seems as a tech upgrade and minor mech upgrade 403Nm(Diesel)and a lower hp than the ranger.
From the spyshots, proportionately it does not look impressive at all, tech spec wise we just have to wait. Expecting some ground breaking technology & real good design but realistically speaking Toyota might not deliver much of it. Its amazing howmuch less Toyota could deliver while keeping order book filled. Having said that my Hilux is 8yo & never missed a beat, hoping the nx one will meet consumers expectation.
Thats so true Viking. Its a trend with toyota, they have been falling behind 5 years ago, and surviving of an old reputation. As an X hilux owner(had mines for 7 years) we are brain washed like gamblers, we only speak about our winnings. After the 3rd year, I changed a fuel pump, 4th two sensors and had to shave the block of the engine, and i keep saying thats small negligible issues. The 5th year, the gear box had to be replace. But I agree, when I did those repairs, the van was like new again (but ridiculously expensive). I wish some1 could answer why difference in prices when the materials is of same specs, just different manufactures. I decided to changed to Ford and honestly, they are much better for the carribbean environment. Real tough, resonable priced mts and now major headache with the plus of the added technology. Toyota reminds me blackberry.

They’ve totally dropped the ball by not repowering it. Ford/Mazda are smashing the Hilux in sales not because it’s a bad vehicle but because it’s old and slow and the perception is that it’s now too small.
If VW put a proper motor into the Amorok instead of the wind up toy it’s got, they’d own this segment! Ask anyone who has to tow big loads – yeah, it’ll do it but…..
I’ve got a Ranger and other than the terrible manual box – it’s just years ahead of the dodgy old and slow Hilux sadly. I grew up loving the Hilux and to see it not get the motor it deserves is a crime!!
Totally agree with you. I saw Toyota using the Ranger as their benchmarker. I wish some one would wisper in their ears, “why not the Ford Atlas”.
My good friend, brought the 6MT 3.2 ranger, 0-200kmph in seconds,ours here apparently are not limited to 90mph, and the ride is better than some suv’s. I manual box needs a 7 speed, too much power and speed for a 6M. The Hilux and Navarra’s prices have been drastically reduce, placing the ranger as a more high-end vechicle, so a lot of minimum salary oweners can now afford the Hilux/Navarra(that for me is a positive Ford brought to our country).
