SPIED: 2016 Chevrolet Cruze caught undisguised!

Spy-Shots of Cars

Not long now before the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze gets its official debut! Spotted earlier, cloaked in camouflaged, the next-generation C-segment sedan has now been captured without an inch of the black stuff taped to its rather dynamic-looking body. Firstly, do not get this variant confused with the one on sale in the Chinese market – a completely different model exists purely for China (just like the Malibu).

So on to the US-spec model here, which was caught running about during a commercial shoot, apparently. In terms of aesthetics, the front end now mirrors the treatment seen on the ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu with the dual-port grille treatment allied to sweptback headlights – LED daytime running lights are embedded into the assembly. Below, the fog lamps frame a relatively large air intake.

In profile, aggro-looking side skirts are presented alongside twin five-spoke alloy wheels while the rear end features a subtle boot lip spoiler and quite a fussy rear bumper outlook, which features a diffuser-like element. Other changes include a high-mounted third brake lamp and smaller Malibu-esque taillights.

Spy-Shots of Cars

The D2XX platform-based 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is expected to come powered by a range of engines from GM’s new Ecotec family. As such, a turbocharged 1.5 litre petrol engine producing roughly 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque will sit alongside a 2.0 litre turbodiesel mill with 151 hp and 357 Nm of torque. A seven-speed dual-cluther, six-speed torque converter auto and a good ol’ six-speed manual are touted.

Additionally, the Cruze could feature active grille shutters – again like the Malibu – as part of its arsenal of economy-improving features. With the car already being shot for promotional purposes, expect the car to receive its debut no later than the end of this year.

I think chevy have to change the ‘cross’ logo if they want to boost their sale here in Malaysia…like Honda change to Acura and using different logo for U.S market….

Honda and Acura sells very different…they sell different cars in the US even if they might share some mechanics underneath…

Acura is a luxury arm of Honda in the US …..like lexus (luxury export to US) to toyota

the Honda H logo is still being sold in the US what…It’s being sold alongside Acura’s with their arrowhead logo but both are in differing market segments.

And technically, the Chevy logo is a bowtie. Stop being overly sensitive… IMO, they’ll actually do well in Malaysia if they made competitive cars. There’s nothing really special about Chevy’s current line-up of cars.

“Chevy logo = cross” is an old, old story. It’s not a cross. It’s wide horizontally and short vertically.. how is that a cross?

The logo is indeed look like a ‘deformed’ cross, and the meaning of the word ‘Cruze’ is ‘Cross’ in Spanish if we remove the last letter ‘e’.
Perhaps Naza should rename it to ‘Luna’ in order to sell it to those Lunatics in the ruling party who oppose the cross.

That’s just a coincidental homophone and not many would know the Spanish meaning. More probably, ‘Cruze’ is a play on the word ‘cruise’. That makes more sense because English is more global than Spanish is.

Now there looks like a stampede of thumb-downs for those of us saying that it doesn’t look like a cross. I wish Malaysians would be less petty. There are more important matters to be concerned about than seeing an enemy where there is none.

so what if it is a cross, it is so sad when malaysia has come to this stage. we have regress as a nation.

anyway as it has been repeatedly highlighted the senget cross is a bow-tie……. chevy is not doing well becos of its after sales, pricing and also a not very interesting/compelling line up.

    This a good looking car….
    but…
here in malaysia, does it have what it takes to take on the big 3…? and even the koreans…? and peugeot..?
Our market share is not that big and neither is our purchasing power…

if chevy wants to attack the market , they would have to go all out….
I’m sure they have Actuaries to assess the market , well if they don’t , they should, cuz lots of them are unemployed right now…

The Australian state governments are closing down the production of Australian Fords and Holdens, due to their low market volume. Thousands of jobs will be lost and there’ll be a permanent loss of unique Australian-only models. That’s kind of like what people are asking for our govt to do to Proton.

Their only options after this are the imported models, such as these Chevys which will probably still be rebadged as Holdens. Without a local car industry, due to the loss of tax revenue from manufacturing, the imported car prices will remain the same or increase slightly.. the import and sales taxes will not be reduced. This is necessary to reduce budget deficits, something that Proton bashers do not understand.

The current Chevy Cruze is already selling in Aussie as the Holden Cruze. Stop sounding like the end of manufacturing in Aussie means the death of Holden. The only Holden that is Aussie is the Commodore and some utes, the rest of their lineup since back then were all rebadged Daewoo and then Chevy.

Agree that the price of cars won’t be reduced drastically even if Proton turns belly up, given the present economic condition of the country, the taxes imposed on cars will not be reduced for these taxes are proven cash cows for the gomen. However the gomen did impose some unfair tactics to disadvantage or advantage certain car makes by imposing ‘Negotiated’ tax system.
The Proton bashers are just letting off steams for owning unreliable Proton car in the past, this bashing will probably go on for another decade or so until Proton becoming a World beater.
