First announced back in January, the Seat Leon ST Cupra 280 wagon has finally made its debut, premiering at the GTI Wörthersee Treffen in Austria.
The Leon ST Cupra estate joins the three- and five-door Leon Cupra hatch variants in the fast Leon lineup – like its siblings, the wagon is powered by a 2.0 TSI engine in a 280 PS output state of tune, with 350 Nm of torque in attendance. A 265 PS version is also available, with the same amount of twist.
Performance numbers for the 280 include a 6.0 seconds 0-100 km/h sprint time with a DSG transmission in tow, and if one opts for the six-speed manual version that’s just a shade slower at 6.1 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h.
Fast it is, enough to be the fastest series production estate to have lapped the Nurburgring – at 7 mins 58.12 seconds, that lap time is 0.3 seconds faster than that achieved by the three-door Mk3 Cupra in 2014, the first FWD car to go under eight seconds at the ‘Ring (that record was eventually taken back by the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R).
The ultra-quick wagon is equipped with DCC dynamic chassis control, a front-axle differential lock, progressive steering and a dedicated high-performance brake system with red calipers as standard fit.
At the event, the ST Cupra 280 is also being showcased dressed in a “Black” Performance Pack. The Dynamic Grey example features 19-inch alloy wheels, a larger Brembo braking system with 370 mm front discs and four-pot calipers as well as body-coloured side skirts.
