Seat Leon ST Cupra-01

It was a matter of time. Seat had the Leon Cupra hot hatch and the Leon ST wagon, so it wouldn’t be too difficult to combine both to make a hot wagon. The Seat Leon ST Cupra joins fast versions of the Leon SC (Sports Coupe, three-door hatch) and five-door hatchback.

Like the hatches, the Leon ST Cupra is powered by a 2.0 TSI engine with either 265 PS or 280 PS, both with 350 Nm of torque. The Cupra 280 does 0-100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds with a DSG gearbox, 0.1 sec faster than the six-speed manual version. That’s three tenths slower than the lighter hatch, but by no means a slow coach. The 265 PS motor does 6.1 (DSG) and 6.2 seconds. Top speed is capped at 250 km/h.

With DCC dynamic chassis control, front-axle differential lock and progressive steering all fitted as standard, the Leon ST Cupra promises handling to go with the speed. A Cupra-specific, high-performance brake system with red calipers stop the car. A Performance Pack throws in larger Brembo brake calipers plus specific wheels and tyres. LED headlamps are standard.

Unlike the hatches, the Leon ST Cupra can carry 587 litres, or 1,470 litres with the rear seats folded flat. It joins the fast wagon market already populated by the VW Golf R Variant and Ford Focus ST Estate.
