New Toyota Avanza Veloz in Indonesia, now with 1.3L

new avanza veloz 01

Here are the first clear shots of the new Toyota Avanza Veloz from Indonesia. Veloz is the sporty variant, and for this facelift – which has been leaked but not yet officially launched – Toyota has given it and the standard variant two very distinct faces, pretty much like what Perodua has done with the Axia and Myvi facelift.

While the standard “Grand New Avanza” gets a Honda HR-V-style face, with a thick upper chrome bar connecting the headlights and an enormous trapezoidal grille, the Veloz adopts a Vios-like look.

There’s a slim upper grille and a large downturned lower grille connected to the fog lights. The grille pattern is a honeycomb variation as opposed to plain horizontal bars.

Seen in an Indonesian showroom here (thanks Nathan!), the new Veloz 1.3 variant (Veloz was previously 1.5 only) gets a new Dual VVT-i 1NR-FE engine with 97 hp and 120 Nm of torque, eco driving indicator, a 2DIN head unit (with USB, AUX and Bluetooth), rear centre headrest and three-point seatbelts for all passengers. Apparently, the new car is claimed to offer 15% better performance and fuel economy, and is 19% quieter.

The Veloz 1.5 also gets a new engine to replace the previous 3SZ-VE – the 2NR-FE is a bigger version of the new 1.3 litre motor, and also has Dual VVT-i. It makes 104 hp and 139 Nm, slightly more than before. All the above kit are in, plus a 2DIN touchscreen head unit with DVD player and Bluetooth, different rims, aerokit and projector headlamps. As the sportier sister, the Veloz gets a black interior.

We have been told that Indonesia’s most popular car (also sold by Daihatsu as the Xenia, facelift on the way) will see a small price hike of around 10-12 million rupiah (RM 2,800 to RM3,400), and the new Veloz 1.3 is priced at 215 million rupiah (RM60,910).

People don’t buy Toyota because it is nice looking, but because it is reliable, comfort and fuel saving.

Wanna get beautiful cars? Get a kimchi then. I can give you attractive price on used units.

Oldies, so old, but not a bad looker.

Better if it has similar rear lamp design like Harrier or recent Fortuner.

No reports about chassis & suspension upgrades?

Better choose lower ground clearance mpv or van or car. When you get old one day you also will feel same. Your knees and lega wont help you as much as when you are young

Boring…. This Avanza used to have the ‘Wow’ factor when UMWT launched them some 10 years ago. But they still keep the same formula 10 years later. Hence the result is a lame product. They should just leave this product category to Perodua which is their sister company. Or maybe they need it for the sales volume because they are losing to Hoonda in passenger car sales now.

Is not like that at all. This vehicle is made and targeted for countries that fall in a particular income bracket. In these countries the buyers usually need a troop carrier which is reliable and the cost of maintenance is cheap. These vehicles are also made to withstand the poor road conditions of these countries. M’sia is also grouped into these category of countries. Poor!!!!

I guess if you’re stuck in Jakarta’s famous jams it doesn’t matter if your Avanza has a 1.3, 1.5 or even a 2.0 coz you’ll be going 10kmh most of the time.

No wait. This isn’t design. That’s a disgrace to the word design.
