VEP introduction delayed – no start date announced

The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) system, which was supposed to have begun on October 1, has been delayed, and no new date for the start of its implementation has been announced, The Star reports. The VEP is set to impose a charge on Singapore-registered private passenger vehicles entering the country via the Causeway and the Second Link.

Last month, it was reported that the proposed cutoff date of October 1 for Singaporeans to register their respective vehicles had been pushed forward to the end of the year. The VEP was supposed to be implemented on August 1, but had been postponed to October 1 due to a series of technical issues.

Reports had indicated that the payment of the RM20 VEP fee per entry will only be payable via a Touch ‘n Go card. Vehicle owners will also have to pay RM10 for the road charges, which is valid for five years.

In early September, it was revealed that only around 45,000 Singaporean vehicles had registered for the VEP and RC (road charges) levied on foreign vehicles entering Malaysia. That number has since swelled to more than 200,000, according to the latest report.

The issue of the VEP as well as the road charge is expected to be raised by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin in his meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. It was intimated that the matter would be discussed during the Mentris Besar and Chief Ministers meeting.

Our Government is happy to give low VEP for the rich Singaporeans to come in and make the cost of living in JB skyrocket. People in JB suffer with high house and food prices because Singaporeans are increasing demand.

Our kerajaan is so stupid and cannot see this. They prefer to make more money but let their own rakyat suffer with high food prices.

    Sedarlah!

Indeed, and it can also be used as a shortened descriptor for remote control, radio controlled, report card, but it was stated in parentheses what the term was. The original use of the acronym was from another report from our site, as was the description of what it stood for.

The JPJ itself uses the RC acronym. The term is mentioned on the ‘About VEP’ page at https://vep.jpj.gov.my/

Delay delay then appoint someone new to take over, and suddenly all green. Don’t know which minister brother or sister will get the fat pie.
