Here’s a surprise – Mitsubishi is set to unveil a new small “crossover MPV” concept at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), happening between August 11 and 21. Described by the carmaker as fusing “the toughness of an SUV with the versatility of an MPV,” it’s a seven-seater that should take the fight to the new hotly-anticipated Honda BR-V.
From the looks of the sole teaser image, the car certainly looks as rugged as an SUV, with flared wheel arches, a tall ride height, roof rails and Mitsubishi’s brutish Dynamic Shield front end design seen on the facelifted Outlander and ASX.
Inside, Mitsubishi claims that a wide body and an optimised interior layout ensures generous interior space for seven occupants. It remains to be seen if it can match the BR-V, whose third-row accommodation is claimed to be class-leading.
Expect the new car to be based on the Mirage and Attrage, albeit perhaps with a larger, more powerful engine than the 1.2 litre 3A92 three-cylinder engine in the other two, to account for a larger, heavier body and the ability to seat seven people.

You have to sit on top the rear axle.
