Daimler will be building a second plant in Kecskemet, Hungary at an investment of 1 billion Euros (RM4.52 billion), where it currently manufactures the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models.

According to a report by Automotive News Europe, the new plant is set for completion in 2020 and will create 2,500 new jobs, for the manufacture of front- and rear-wheel drive models, which means manufacturing operations in Hungary will expand beyond building just models based on the MFA platform.

“We will establish a state-of-the-art and efficient production facility in which different vehicle architectures will roll off the assembly line flexibly,” Markus Schaefer, board member for production for Mercedes-Benz Cars, said in a statement. The factory will have an annual capacity of 150,000, while the Hungarian government offered US$46 million (RM187 million) in incentives, according to Hungarian foreign minister Peter Szijjarto.

At present, the Kecskemet plant employs more than 4,000 staff, and produced over 180,000 vehicles last year. In total, it has built over half a million cars since it started operations in Hungary in 2012.

  • It will create 2,500 new jobs resulting to annual capacity of 150,000. Now this is efficiency. As opposed to 80,000 p1 cars to create 10,000 jobs. See the irony?

      • john, ali is talking about EFFICIENCY/PRODUCTIVITY…..more specifically comparing & highlighting how grossly bloated & inefficient we are. The statistics mean every year 1 hungarian can make 60 mercedes cars vs. 1 malaysian making only 8 P1 !!!!!!

        • If u wanna talk about efficiency, why din Mesidis go fully automated like Tesla did? Thats very efficient as far as human being inefficient creatures. Mesidis definitely has the financial might to do it, as compared to P1.

Oh, u mean setting up factory is for human employment? Then why minimise hiring pipu instead of maximising employment then?
