PSA to set up ASEAN plant in Vietnam by 2018

Groupe PSA has big plans afoot for the ASEAN market, and it will incorporate an SUV-centric product offensive. The French automotive group of brands has sealed a joint venture partnership for this year, with plant operations in Vietnam set for commencement in 2018.

Previously, we reported in 2015 that a Dongfeng-PSA joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen Automobile Limited (DPCA) was set to begin production of its cars in Vietnam. The Dongfeng-PSA joint venture targeted a sales volume of 70,000 units in the year 2020, according to a statement by Dongfeng-PSA then.

Back in 2010, Peugeot made Malaysia its right-hand-drive production hub via its partner Naza, which set up its manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah for the assembly of models such as the Peugeot 408 sedan, Citroen DS 4 and DS 5.

Recently, the PSA Group was also in the running to form a strategic partnership with Proton, a move which would have granted the former access to the Malaysian carmaker’s Tanjung Malim plant. Had it gone through, it was said that PSA planned to use Proton’s underutilised facilities as its ASEAN production and export base. Ultimately, however, Proton formed a partnership with China’s Zhejiang Geely instead.

Peugeot vs Geely, you already know which one is the more prestigious and better designed. But why on earth Proton chose Geely over PSA?? We’ll never know the real reason…..

Bro, the REAL reason P1 sold 49.99% to Geely because NO one can offer better or have the CASH needed to pay off its mounting debts.
They are loosing approximately RM4 million per day if you use 2016 account as the yardstick. Beggars can’t be choosy. As for “prestigious & better designed”, only time will tell.

Since U asked, let older bro teach U. Very simple. All U have to do is take 365 x 4 = How much? It was reported Proton lost more than RM1.4 billion in 2016. In case U don’t know how many Zeros in a million. Its RM1,400,000.00

Geely only paid RM170 mil for it. Kacang puteh. In 2016, the earned USD$30 billion (RM130 billion). In 2015 they earned USD26 billion and in 2014 they earned USD26 billion.

At anytime they can decide to rescind their contract. RM70 mil is peanuts.

More business competition is good for consumer. More new comer is even better. Else these old timer will think they are the king and squeeze the consumer.

Our labour is too expensive. And ppl keep switching jobs whenever they get higher offer. Foreign workers need to pay high levy. And proton still protected by govt. Govt must proof this is wrong by allowing 1. Removal of excise duty by half, down to 33%. 2. Miti not to block Toyota vios and Honda city RRP to go below 70k. Then see what happens.

    • Ekceli MITI not blocking anything. If them brands wanna high keras price so hai, then whats MITI can do? Do u know Nissan Almera?

What can enhance competition and open economy is to double up all vehicle prices and shove all that gains into more public transport.

Studies shown that public transports has higher multiplier effects on economy compared to endless road constructions to cater for cheap cars. Thats what gov shud do.
