In celebration of its three-in-a-row WRC2 titles, Skoda decided to treat some unsuspecting passengers to a WRC2-spec Fabia R5 taxi ride around Prague in its native Czech Republic. Not only has the Fabia R5 swept all comers in the WRC2 class, it has also won 14 national rally titles including in the Czech Republic.
Driven by three-time Czech Republic rally champion Jan Kopecký, a total of 20 passengers were ferried around town in the rally car for what were possibly their most exuberant taxi rides yet.
“This kind of thing doesn’t happen often, and thanks are definitely due to the entire Skoda Motorsport team and to everyone who made it possible. Getting such a beautiful car into the city center is something extraordinary,” Kopecký said.
The coming season will see the Skoda team face off against the likes of its VW Group cousin, the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 developed by the team behind the WRC-conquering entrant which won titles from 2013 to 2016, and subsequently departed from top-flight WRC competition. This time around, the Wolfsburg marque will be represented by customer teams instead.
The R5 class is also contested by the Proton Iriz R5 entered and prepared by Mellors Elliot Motorsport, which took its maiden win at the Grizedale Rally earlier this month.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Did the passengers sign a disclaimer form B4 riding in the Skoda R5 ??
This is one of the best advertisement for Skoda brand. Maybe P1/Mellors Elliot Motorsport can do the same for Proton !!
Maybe in England, perhaps. But not in MY cuz race cars aint road legal.
FYI rally cars, even in malaysia has to be fully road legal.
Not with a built in roll cage, they dun. Most rallies in MY r done in off roads or closed off tarmac roads.
Please go back and learn more about rallying boy…
boy boy, even a child would know that cars with roll cage cannot be road legal.
Amazing. 20 years ago Skoda was the butt joke of Europeans. Everybody used to laugh and sindir Skoda
But in 20 years they worked hard to improve their image.
Look at them today, now a top seller. It goes to show, working hard pays. No need to beg for money, just work hard to improve your product, and it will do well
Skoda used to roll down homegrown tanks on Czech roads in defense against German supremacy.
Now their just a shell doing rebadge for their ex-conquerors.
“Authentic” car makers should hire people who are passionate about their work and motorheads that eat, sleep and dream about cars. Not a bunch of wanna bees who is just interested in making easy money through politics and knows shit about cars. When the above criteria is fulfilled, then maybe P1 will have hope!
Err..that’s why Geely took over..?
Fake taxi?
I would love to take a taxi ride in this!
