Proton sales up by 2.3% in May 2018 – 4,091 units sold

Proton has announced that it sold 4,091 cars in the month of May 2018, which represents an increase of 2.3% from the 3,999 units shifted in April. According to the company, the increase in sales was largely due to the government’s decision to set the good and services tax rate at 0% from June 1 onwards. The result was also supported by Proton’s Kosong-kosong promotion.

The Saga and Persona were the most popular models among its customers, accounting for 70% of total sales for the month. The national carmaker also stated it recorded an unofficial 8.8% market share on the back of the sales figure.

“Proton continuously strive to provide the best deals for its customers as we realised that having good products alone is not enough if there are no additional attractions to pull customers into our showroom,” said Abdul Rashid Musa, CEO of Proton Edar.

“Hence, we had concurrently put in place all the right measures and efforts for total quality improvement of our products, attractive offers for ease of car ownership and in the pipeline, the dealers upgrade of 3S and 4S centres which will prepare us to face the challenging market more positively,” he added.

For the month of June, Proton has announced its Greatest Saga Raya Deal where customers can enjoy zero-rated GST pricing as well as cash rebates on selected Proton models. In addition to this, Proton is also offering a free 20-point inspection at all its authorised outlets nationwide (until June 15) as well as selected Petronas stations (June 12-13, 10am to 5pm).

Mahathir will kill Proton. Then start a new car company – electric car company.

also, PH manifesto never say they will reduce car prices. plus, few years ago Mahathir said foreign cars in Malaysia are too cheap, the gov need to raise the taxes to protect Proton.

With electric cars, the cost is much higher. Does this mean a normal Honda City will cost RM200K? just to force people to buy this new electric car?

Tun will get a PH supporter to launch new national car…just wait and see.
So,Protong…nothing to shout about..just sold extra 92 cars compared to previous month.
At 50,000 units sales for 2018…DRB/Geely will be staring at another huge loss of at least RM 500 juta.
        This time…no more bailout…Zero aid!!!
Success with Volvo acquisition do not mean success with Protong acquisition. The current range of saga/pesona will be obsolete by next year.So can u rely on Boyue or Bo Rui ?
Protong…you will be Boh LUI( no money ,in Hokkien)

We must thank China and Chairman Li. Even all the past local CEOs, although they earn millions per year in remuneration, many more millions if you include bonus, some more millions if you include ESOS, none of them could pulihkan Proton.

We needed a foreign CEO to tell us that local suppliers and vendors were overcharging Proton and conning Proton.

None of our highly paid local CEOs could not see this or maybe closed an eye to this serious problem that bankrupt poor Proton.

Thank you China and thank you Chairman Li for your help and guidance. Pls guide our country to better prosperity too.

Poor Proton. PH Government must investigate what happened to Proton’s Shah Alam land worth RM5 billion. The land had a Gross Development Value of RM15 billion.

Now, the land no more in Proton’s hands.

I hope PH Government can investigate what happened. It is unfair that Proton has lost one of its assets costing RM5 billion just because there was unfair practices.

Get back that land and at least Proton can use the RM5 billion to restore itself to health. See, even now sales are improving

Must siasat who songlap Proton’s land

This mean M’sian who bought these kosong-kosong promotion can’t afford to BOROS/waste on luxuries items(add on). It is actually a good thing that P1 gave this promotion in this trying time & push off older stocks. It’s a win-win for all. Good job P1.

In addition, we can get brand new Persona 1.6 manual from as low as RM39k with this kosong-kosong promotion (if Iriz 1.6 with roughly below RM45k selling price which is around same with base spec Myvi 1.3G, even base spec Iriz also not a bad thing – personally feel 1.6 is more suitable to match Iriz engine, since it can ‘reduce’ Myvi3 1.5 waiting period plus 1.3 version were deemed underpowered)

Until newer products arrive, only Saga & Persona can sell. Basically Proton is only playing the entry level sedan A & B segment.

SUV market untapped. Boyue & SX1 will be C & B segment SUV for Proton.

It’ll be a long & difficult road to recovery.

    https://paultan.org/2018/06/12/viralled-car-is-not-the-perodua-suv-all-new-model-unlikely-to-be-launched-in-2018-p2s-md-zahari/

If this is not a marketing deception, then Proton best strike fast.& launch the B segment SUV (SX1). At the moment there’s a big untapped market potential for affordable B & C segment SUV. If the Boyue is priced just below RM100k (high spec model), then it would have cornered the market segment, just like what the Wira did back in 90s.

Launching the B segment SUV (SX1) before P2 will give Proton the first mover advantage. If played right, this SX1 SUV can also corner the market, giving Proton a much needed boost both in sales & consumer confidence.

The ball is now in Proton management court. Time to take a gamble but this gamble is worthwhile. Dr Li & team, Go For It.
