• BYD Seagull heads to Indonesia as Atto 1; compact EV to be sold in two variants, RM57k-61k estimated

BYD Seagull heads to Indonesia as Atto 1; compact EV to be sold in two variants, RM57k-61k estimated

The BYD Seagull will be known as the Atto 1 when it goes on sale in Indonesia, according to a post on the BYD Indonesia Facebook group.

Known as the Dolphin Mini in international markets, the Seagull instead takes the Dolphin Surf name in the United Kingdom and Europe. Indonesia is the latest right-hand-drive market set to receive the Seagull, after the compact EV’s arrival in Thailand in March last year, and it was reportedly planned for the Australian market as well.

Unveiled in April 2023, the BYD Seagull measures 3,780 mm long, 1,715 mm wide and 1,540 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm and is thus positioned under the Dolphin, which is 3,895 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,515 mm tall with an identical wheelbase.

According to Indonesian news outlet Kompas, the Seagull will go on sale in the republic in two variants, with pricing indicated to be between 218 million rupiah (RM56,871) and 233 million rupiah (RM60,784).

BYD Seagull heads to Indonesia as Atto 1; compact EV to be sold in two variants, RM57k-61k estimated

Based on China-market technical specifications, the Seagull/Atto 1 gets a single electric motor producing 74 hp or 94 hp, supplied by either a 30 kWh or 38 kWh battery with CLTC-rated ranges of 305 km and 405 km respectively.

While the aforementioned plan for the Seagull to go on sale in Australia has yet to materialise, the reported arrival of the Seagull in Indonesia – where it appears to be badged Atto 1 – affirms the carmaker’s plans for the compact EV to be sold in right-hand-drive markets.

There has previously also been consideration for the Seagull to be brought to Malaysia as a budget entry below the Dolphin, though the current RM100k floor price for electric vehicles sold in Malaysia would position it side-by-side with the larger Dolphin, at least until next year.

  • BYD updates God’s Eye ADAS with Level 4-equivalent park assist – will pay for damages from accidents

BYD updates God’s Eye ADAS with Level 4-equivalent park assist – will pay for damages from accidents

Earlier this year, BYD introduced its God’s Eye suite of highly-automated driver assists, which it proceeded to fit as standard across its entire range of BYD, Denza, Fangchengbao and Yangwang models. That’s an impressive feat all of its own, but the company has announced a new over-the-air update that boosts the capabilities of the system still further.

According to a post on its Weibo page, the system’s main new addition is an overhauled park assist system that is claimed to offer the equivalent of Level 4 autonomy (hands off, eyes off, brain off), which the company said is a world first.

The system, which is able to park in diagonal spaces in addition to parallel and perpendicular spots, will now be able to park nose-in and it will even detect if there are any overhanging obstacles and avoid them. It will even be able to detect if other cars are not parked properly and park in an offset manner, allowing occupants to still get in and out.

BYD updates God’s Eye ADAS with Level 4-equivalent park assist – will pay for damages from accidents

Another new feature is the ability to detect if the car is entering a narrow parking space, retracting the door mirrors automatically. Drivers will be able to choose from three parking speeds – including an “extreme speed” mode – and as the promotional photos show, they’ll even be able to be outside of the car while the parking manoeuvre is being performed autonomously.

Such is the confidence BYD has in the system that it is literally putting its money where its mouth is. It announced that it will assume full responsibility for any accidents arising from the use of its upgraded park assist and pay for any damages caused, including third-party property and personal injury losses. The company says it will do so even if the vehicle is out of warranty or if the driver is not the first owner of the car. This approach mirrors a pledge taken by Volvo in the early days of autonomous driving development.

Other changes to the broader God’s Eye system include improvements to the (still Level 2) semi-autonomous driving features, including the ability to speed up or slow down automatically when changing lanes to match the traffic flow. The car will also now flash the headlights and sound the horn if another driver is changing lanes dangerously, allowing users to become a “public road safety officer”. Sounds like it would make a great feature on Malaysian roads if I may say so myself.

There have also been optimisations made to the general system functionality. For instance, it will automatically adjust the headlights to the highest position when entering assisted driving mode to improve obstacle detection, as well as turning off the indicators once an autonomous lane change is performed. Models equipped with the base God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100, no lidar sensor) also get improved operation guidance and an optimised speed range that gives priority to the speed setting set by the user.

The OTA update will be pushed out to the “Dynasty” models with the God’s Eye C system first, such as the Qin Plus, Qin L, Song L, Song Pro, Yuan Plus (Atto 3), Yuan Up (Atto 2) and Xia MPV, with other models following later on. The news comes as BYD celebrates over one million vehicles with God’s Eye now on the road in China.

Perodua Genuine Oil keeps your Perodua in tip-top condition – don’t be lured by counterfeit lubricants

So, it’s time for an oil change. Your mechanic or service centre gives you a quote which you don’t really like the look of, so you trawl through e-commerce platforms and social media pages listed by any seller to find the same engine oil for, to your utmost delight, nearly half the price.

You click ‘Buy Now’ in a split-second, and before you know it, you’re filling the bowels of your engine with this miracle lubricant that just saved you so much. Doesn’t a good deal feel good? I’ve beat the system, you think, starting your car and circulating thousands of millilitres of counterfeit oil around your motor.

Perodua Genuine Oil keeps your Perodua in tip-top condition – don’t be lured by counterfeit lubricants

You see, oil is pretty much to an engine what blood is to the human body – it goes around the whole thing, into every extremity, into every nook and cranny. Just as you wouldn’t want counterfeit blood in you, you wouldn’t want an oil of dubious formulation lubricating a machine you rely on so much to take you, your beloved spouse and your cherished children everywhere, every day.

Engine oil doesn’t just lubricate; it also cools, cleans and protects the many moving parts. A non-genuine oil with inadequate lubricating properties can cause increased friction, which makes the engine work harder, which leads to higher fuel consumption, compromised performance and in extreme cases, overheating. Not to mention increased wear and tear, which could cause engine damage in the long run.

It doesn’t pay to be penny wise and pound foolish, sebab sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi sakit. If you’re a Perodua owner, you need to know about Perodua Genuine Oil. Developed in collaboration with Petronas, PGO is specially formulated to provide maximum protection and optimised performance for your Perodua, and perhaps most importantly, the completely-priceless peace of mind.

PGO is only to be found at authorised Perodua service centres, authorised stockists and selected Petronas stations – there is no guarantee of authenticity with any other source. VinFast VF7 to debut in Indonesia at 2025 Gaikindo show – C-seg EV SUV with up to 354 PS, 496 km range

Vinfast VF 7 at 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show

VinFast has announced it will be at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), which takes place from July 4 to August 3. The Vietnamese carmaker has chosen the event to introduce a “brand-new right-hand drive model to Indonesian consumers,” further expanding its line-up in the country.

Based on a teaser posted on social media a few days ago, the model is the VF7, a C-segment electric SUV that first made its global debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2022. A right-hand drive version of the VF7 was previously presented by VinFast at last year’s Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS).

The previous RHD model that made its way to Indonesia was the VF6 (B-segment SUV), which went on sale in May 2025 with a starting price of 396,995,000 rupiah (about RM104k). Referring to VinFast Indonesia’s official website, other available models include the VF3 (compact SUV), VFe34 (C-segment SUV) and VF5 (A-segment SUV).

On the model to be presented at the upcoming GIIAS, the VF7 measures 4,545 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,636 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. In the Philippines (a left-hand drive market) where it is already on sale, the EV is offered in two variants that feature lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.

The base Eco has a 59.6-kWh unit for a WLTP-targeted range of 498 km and is paired with a front electric motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h time for this is around 10-11 seconds, while the top speed is 150 km/h.

Next up is the Plus that has a larger 75.3-kWh battery and two electric motors for all-wheel drive as well as a total system output of 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm. With the added oomph, the Plus completes the century sprint in 5.8 seconds, while offering a higher top speed of 175 km/h and range of 496 km.

In its home market of Vietnam, the VF7 comes in three options, starting with the Eco that has a 59.6-kWh battery, front electric motor with 177 PS (174 hp or 130 kW) and 250 Nm and up to 498 km of range (NEDC).

It is followed by the Plus with a 75.6-kWh battery, a more powerful front electric motor with 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW) and 310 Nm and an undisclosed amount of range. Lastly, there’s the Plus AWD, also with a 75.6-kWh battery but with dual electric motors rated at 354 PS (349 hp or 260 kW) and 500 Nm – the range is 496 km (NEDC).

  • Perodua ‘QV-E’ EV to get some form of AVAS? Low-speed pedestrian warning sound mandatory by 2026

Perodua ‘QV-E’ EV to get some form of AVAS? Low-speed pedestrian warning sound mandatory by 2026

Perodua’s upcoming EV has been spotted again, this time at Bukit Sentosa (very near P2’s Sungai Choh base) by user Chip Pkb, who shared his discovery on the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Facebook Group.

Chip has shared a video of the car in motion, which reveals what appears to be all-LED rear lighting (including the reverse lights), sequential indicators and LED DRLs below the headlamps.

Also, turn your volume up: can you hear something as the car moves? Sounds like an acoustic vehicle alert system (AVAS, coincidentally one letter away from ‘beware’ in our national language!), which will be mandatory for EVs in Malaysia the minute we hit 2026. Yup, like the Proton eMas 7‘s chime, though to me that one sounds more like an airport terminal jingle than an ice-cream truck.

I can’t really tell if the first two ‘boops’ (sorry, but that’s exactly what it sounds like) are part of the low-speed pedestrian warning sound, but a few seconds later as the camo-ed Perodua draws closer to the camera, you can hear a kind of cosmic ‘bubbling’ that sounds quite futuristic. What do you think? All we know so far about the EV that could be called the ‘QV-E’ here.

  • Nissan to stop production at historic Oppama plant by March 2028 as part of its Re:Nissan restructuring plan

Nissan to stop production at historic Oppama plant by March 2028 as part of its Re:Nissan restructuring plan

Nissan has announced that it will stop producing vehicles at its Oppama plant in Japan at the end of fiscal year 2027, which is March 2028, as part of its Re:Nissan restructuring plan.

According to the automaker, both current and future models scheduled for production at Oppama will instead be manufactured at Nissan Motor Kyushu located in the in the southern prefecture of Fukuoka. The Oppama plant began production in 1961 and employs approximately 2,400 people. At present, it produces the Note but it previously built models such as the Bluebird, Cube, Juke and Leaf.

“This decision applies solely to the Oppama plant within the Oppama district. Other facilities and functions in the district – such as the Nissan Research Centre, the Grandrive proving ground, the crash test facility and Oppama Wharf (vehicle storage and shipping) —will remain unaffected and continue operations as usual,” the company said in its release.

“Today, Nissan made a tough but necessary decision. It wasn’t easy – for me or for the company – but I believe it’s a vital step toward overcoming our current challenges and building a sustainable future. The Oppama plant is a proud part of our history, and its legacy will endure,” commented Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa.

Nissan to stop production at historic Oppama plant by March 2028 as part of its Re:Nissan restructuring plan

“I want to sincerely thank our employees, the local community and our partners who have supported this plant with dedication and heart. We will continue to operate in the Oppama area with strong support for the local community, as we carry forward the spirit of Oppama plant and work to restore Nissan’s true value,” he added.

As for what will happen to the Oppama plant, the company is exploring a wide range of options but hasn’t decided on anything for now. It notes that employees at the plant will remain employed until the end of fiscal year 2027.

The production stop at the Oppama plant is in line with the company’s restructuring plan to reduce its global production capacity from 3.5 million units (excluding China) to 2.5 million units while maintaining a plant utilisation rate of around 100%. This will see the consolidation of production sites from 17 to 10, with the Oppama plant being one of the “casualties.”

On a separate matter, Nissan says that production of the current NV200, currently consigned to the Nissan Shatai Shonan Plant located in the Kanagawa prefecture, will end in fiscal year 2026 (March 2027). A successor to the light commercial vehicle (LCV) will be introduced in fiscal year 2027.

  • Proton eMas 5 spied yet again – RHD, launching soon?

Proton eMas 5 spied yet again – RHD, launching soon?

As Proton continues road testing eMas 5 prototypes, readers continue to send spyshots in, including Aryan Azrin from the paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group on Facebook. His image of the entry-level electric hatchback, sighted in front of Menara Worldwide in Bukit Bintang, just about shows that the car is right-hand drive, meaning that the national carmaker isn’t just testing the Geely Star Wish/Xingyuan here but the actual Malaysian-spec unit.

Due to the copious amounts of camouflage wrapping, there’s not much that can be gleaned outside of the general shape. It is worth noting, however, that the test mule looks practically identical to the Star Wish (and the rebadged unit shown at the Malaysia Autoshow in May), so the AI-enhanced ad Proton itself put out last month was a red herring.

This extends to the rear end, which we’ve gotten a good look at thanks to an image contributed by our own Bahasa Malaysia colleague Izwaashura Sadali. The triangular taillights with their wraparound “tails” remain, as do the cutout for the tailgate release and the reverse camera located within the bumper (meaning that despite the trade plate’s position, that’s where the number plate recess will be, too).

Proton eMas 5 spied yet again – RHD, launching soon?

One quirk of the Star Wish that the eMas 5 carries over is the lack of a rear wiper. The positioning of the third brake light low down on the rear windscreen means that it’s pretty much impossible to place it there, and there doesn’t seem to be any space for it at the top edge (Range Rover style), either.

The eMas 5 is expected to share its mechanicals with the Star Wish, including 79 PS/130 Nm and 116 PS/150 Nm rear motors mated to 30.12 kWh (for a range of just 310 km even on China’s lenient CLTC cycle) and 40.16 kWh (for a range of 410 km) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs respectively. Proton would do well to install larger battery packs – perhaps from the eMas 7 – to increase the range and make the car better suited to Malaysian use cases.

Proton has already confirmed that the eMas 5 will be launched this year, meaning that we can expect a full reveal sooner rather than later. It and the larger eMas 7 SUV will be just the start of a full-scale assault, with three new models set to debut over the coming years.

  • Lamborghini Temerario in Malaysia – 10,000 rpm 4.0L twin-turbo, 920 PS PHEV, from RM1.35 mil before taxes

Lamborghini Temerario in Malaysia – 10,000 rpm 4.0L twin-turbo, 920 PS PHEV, from RM1.35 mil before taxes

Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur has officially introduced the Lamborghini Temerario in Malaysia, with the wraps coming off the brand’s second plug-in hybrid supercar – after the Revuelto – earlier this evening. Pricing for the Temerario, which replaces the long-running Huracán, starts from RM1.35 million, before taxes, duties and options.

Unlike the Revuelto, which has a naturally-aspirated V12 at the heart of things, the Temerario is shod with a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid engine, but there’s no shortage of zip. On its own, the new L411 engine develops 800 PS from 9,000 to 9,750 rpm and 730 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm, and can rev up to 10,000 rpm, which is higher than Ferrari and Porsche’s NA engines.

A three electric motor system, each offering 150 PS, completes the set-up. One of these is at the rear, situated between the engine and the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and offers 300 Nm of push. The other two units provide torque vectoring across the front axle. Combined, both push out a peak of 299 PS (82 PS continuous) and 2,150 Nm.

Lamborghini Temerario in Malaysia – 10,000 rpm 4.0L twin-turbo, 920 PS PHEV, from RM1.35 mil before taxes

Combined with the engine, total system output is 920 PS, enabling the Temerario to get from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 343 km/h.

The three motors are juiced by a 3.8 kWh battery, housed within the spine of the chassis. The pack supports AC charging of up to 7 kW, and takes around 30 minutes for a full charge. A novelty of the electrified system is that the front motors can drive the car on electricity alone with a maximum output of 190 PS.

Drivers can control how the powertrain operates via the Recharge (which charges the battery using the V8), Hybrid and Performance settings, which work in unison with the five drive modes – Città (for city), Strada (street), Sport, Corsa (race) and Corsa Plus (driver aids off) – to determine how the engine and motors are used. There’s also launch control and a four-level Drift Mode.

Lamborghini Temerario in Malaysia – 10,000 rpm 4.0L twin-turbo, 920 PS PHEV, from RM1.35 mil before taxes

Enhancing the ferocity of the high-revving V8 is a specially-tuned exhaust system with an active exhaust, a connection between the engine banks and a sound symposer that sends engine notes to the cabin.

If you’re into hexagons, the Temerario will surely be a delight to sight, because the shape can be seen across the car, from the daytime running lights in the front air intakes, the door mirrors, the side window shape, the various scoops and the centre tailpipe to the taillights and even the fuel filler flap and charge port doors.

The overall shape itself is unmistakably Lamborghini, with a low-slung silhouette characterised by the slim, swooping glasshouse, which tapers towards the rear. The unbroken shoulder line, which stretches from the front fenders to the taillights, is reminiscent of the Gallardo’s, while the fixed rear spoiler enhances the car’s substantial width.

Plenty of attention has been paid to aerodynamics. Aside from various fins hidden within air inlets, the roof’s central channel and tapered glasshouse have also been designed to feed the rear spoiler with clean airflow, while a large rear diffuser and various deflectors maximise air flow extraction from the back of the vehicle. It’s all good enough to provide the Temerario with 103% more rear downforce compared to its predecessor.

Additional downforce – to the tune of 158% – can be obtained with the inclusion of an Alleggerita (lightweight) pack, which adds a finned carbon fibre front splitter along with carbon underbody panels, side skirts, rear engine cover and a more aggressively styled rear spoiler to the equation.

Thanks to the new spaceframe chassis, the Temerario offers significantly more interior space than its predecessor, with more headroom and legroom as well as the ability to accommodate passengers up to 200 com tall. Inside, the presentation is similar to the Revuelto’s, with a Y-shaped centre console, hexagonal corner air-con vents and a trio of screens to be found.

The digital displays consist of a customisable 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, an 8.4-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen and a 9.1-inch passenger display. There’s also wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a Sonus faber sound system.

The Temerario also debuts a Lamborghini Vision Unit, which is a three camera system that captures the forward view, the front cabin and the occupants. Besides being a fancy dash – and selfie – cam, the system also allows drivers to record up to two minutes of driving footage using the Memories Recorder function.

The car can be specified with either leather or Corsatex microfibre upholstery, along with a multitude of carbon fibre interior options. Other cabin highlights include power-adjustable comfort seats with heating and ventilation (with carbon fibre sports seats being an option) and rotary dials for controlling the drive and powertrain modes and Drift Mode levels.

The Temerario rides on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, available in three different designs and materials, these being cast rims (three colours), forged (four colours) and carbon. Standard fit rubbers are Bridgestone Potenza Sport, in 255/35 profile at the front and 325/30 at the rear.

As for exterior colours, two new dedicated shades were introduced at launch, Blu Marinus (which is what the Malaysian display example is in) and a green called Verde Mercurius. However, Temerario buyers will have to option of more than 400 body colours to pick from.

  • Honda N-One e: teased – production Super EV Concept; is this kei EV going global?

Honda N-One e: teased – production Super EV Concept; is this kei EV going global?

Not long after gunning its Super EV Concept up the Goodwood hillclimb, Honda has released the first teaser image of the new N-One e:, its forthcoming electric kei car. The tiny hatchback provides some much-needed competition to the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK X EV (and the forthcoming BYD kei EV) and should utilise the same powertrain as the N-Van e:.

That would be a single front motor churning out 64 PS (47 kW) and 162 Nm of torque, juiced by a 29.6 kWh battery for a WLTP-rated range of 245 km. That’s usefully more than the Sakura and eK X EV, which max out at 180 km; this is also reportedly the target for BYD’s competitor.

The sole image provided shows a typical kei car narrow body fronted by a blacked-out front mask, cutesy round headlights and dual charging ports – one is presumably for the AC charger, the other hiding a CHAdeMO DC port. Speaking of which, the N-Van e: supports up to 50 kW DC fast charging, taking 30 minutes to charge to 80%; the same will probably apply to this car.

Honda N-One e: teased – production Super EV Concept; is this kei EV going global?

Does this thing look familiar? That’s probably because the N-One e: is almost certainly a narrow-body version of the Super EV Concept. That car appeared remarkably similar to the regular petrol-powered N-One with its upright glasshouse and distinctive square taillights, with the only differences being the aforementioned front mask and fattened wheel arches (meaning it won’t fit restrictive kei car size regs).

This suggests that the N-One e: will become the first Honda kei car to be sold overseas as a somewhat sporty city EV. Interestingly, the carmaker is positioning the concept version as a “fun-to-drive” car with an “uplifting, heart-pounding driving experience,” which probably means it will be heavily modified over the more humdrum Japanese model.

Expect a more powerful electric motor (given that Honda won’t have to abide by the Japanese gentlemen’s agreement on kei car power outputs) and sports-tuned suspension. Would you like to see the N-One e: in its Super EV form in Malaysia? Sound off in the comments after the jump.

  • Range Rover Electric preliminary details – 118 kWh battery, up to 483 km EV range, dual-motor 542 hp

Range Rover Electric preliminary details – 118 kWh battery, up to 483 km EV range, dual-motor 542 hp

The Range Rover Electric will be the brand’s second electric vehicle (EV) after the I-Pace and is expected to make its debut later this year. Before that, media outlets in the United Kingdom such as Autocar and Evo were given the chance to try out the luxurious, zero-emission, off-road-capable SUV, providing us with some valuable information.

Starting with what is already known, the Range Rover Electric will be built on the same Modular Longitudinal Architecture-Flex (MLA-Flex) platform as the regular, non-EV Range Rover. Additionally, it will not replace any other variant in the model range and will instead be another option sold alongside the existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid derivatives.

As for the battery, the reports indicate a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) pack with 118 kWh of usable capacity for an estimated range of up to 483 km (300 miles). Power from the battery is sent to two electric motors – one on each axle – that provide a total system output of 542 hp and 850 Nm of torque. These figures aren’t too far off P530 powertrain with a BMW-sourced 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine making 523 hp and 750 Nm.

The battery is mounted in the vehicle floor to keep the mass low down, which negates the need for active anti-roll bars to manage the targeted kerb weight of 2,800 kg. Evo reports that fixed roll bars are used that enable the required levels of wheel articulation when off-roading. The EV will also feature dual-chamber air springs and adaptive dampers.

Meanwhile, Autocar says the Range Rover Electric will have a slightly reduced ground clearance compared to a standard Range Rover at 260 mm (-30 mm), while its breakover angle is just 23 degrees (-4 degrees). Other stats such as wading depth (900 mm), ‘drive through’ climbing capacity (45 degrees) are unchanged.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is also said to offer the EV in standard- and long-wheelbase versions, although there will not be an option for seven seats due to the electric drive system taking up the space under the boot.

  • 2025 BMW 218 Gran Coupe in Malaysia – CKD, RM241k

2025 BMW 218 Gran Coupe in Malaysia – CKD, RM241k

Launched in Malaysia last month, the F74-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has arrived in our market as the 218, dropping the ‘i’ suffix of before, in line with the German marque’s latest naming convention for petrol-powered models.

This is one that has considerable shoes to fill, following on from the F44-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe that has seen 4,500 units sold by BMW Malaysia in the country, exceeding sales expectations. Relative to the previous model, the latest, 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe measures 4,546 mm long (+20 mm) and 1,445 mm tall (+25 mm), while its 1,800 mm width and 2,670 mm wheelbase are unchanged.

Locally assembled from the outset, the sole 218 Sport specification for the Malaysian market brings the 1.5-litre Miller-cycle turbocharged three-cylinder engine that outputs 156 hp and 230 Nm, transversely mounted in the engine bay and paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending drive to the front wheels. Thus equipped, 0-100 km/h is elapsed in 8.6 seconds, while top speed is 230 km/h.

A new generation of 2 Series Gran Coupe means new chassis components, which bring optimised axle kinematics, says BMW. Suspension layout here is by MacPherson struts in front and a three-link setup for the rear, with a standard suspension tune for this Sport trim specification that also brings 18-inch Y-spoke two-tone alloys, shod in Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tyres measuring 225/45R18.

Heading inside, the F74-generation model brings the modern, minimalist look that is commonplace today, presented here in the 218 Sport with the BMW Curved Display featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central screen. These run on the BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect.

The touchscreen-heavy approach sees the deletion of the iDrive controller and air-conditioning controls, while audio controls have been relocated to the centre console where the iDrive controller would have been.

The kit list also brings Sports front seats (electric with memory), perforated Veganza vegan leather upholstery in black, a three-spoke Sport steering wheel, Aluminium Graphite trim with backlit illumination, a wireless charging tray, automatic air con with rear vents and anti-dazzle mirrors, and more.

For assistance systems, the F74-generation 218 Sport gets the Driving Assistant pack that includes Lane Change Warning, Speed Limit Info, Rear Crossing Traffic Alert with brake intervention and Exit Warning. There’s also Reverse Emergency Braking and Predictive Forward Collision Warning. Parking Assistant includes Reversing Assistant up to 50 metres and a Reversing Assist Camera.

Offered in exterior colours including Alpine White, Black Sapphire and Cape York Green as depicted here, the BMW 218 Gran Coupe Sport is priced at RM241,000 on-the-road without insurance, with the BSRI five-year extended warranty and service package.

View it in greater detail in our live image gallery, here.
