New parts plant for UMW Toyota’s next generation Camry

New parts plant for UMW Toyota’s next generation Camry

UMW Toyota today announced the official opening of the Toyota Boshoku UMW second plant. One of the reasons for the new plant being built is to accomodate the parts production required for the next- generation Toyota Camry, which will be locally assembled for the next generation, instead of the current generation Camry, which is a CBU import from Thailand.

The new plant will also allow the first plant to improve its processes. The new plant will focus on sewing and cutting operations and introduction of a new locally-produced part called the “Package Tray” which functions as the rear speaker board for the new CKD Camry.

i don’t think price will be cheaper even if it assembled here… just like Honda Accord and CRV, bcoz many parts are still coming from Thailand.

Well, operations may start with something small now, but I suppose there’s always potential for more advanced parts later!

Besides, speaker board manufacturing pun revenue jugak, more jobs jugak!

        Cheers :)

its not worth to assemble hybrid cars more than 2000cc as they are not entitled for zero tax unlike prius or insight

  • So much for Toyota’s quality if it’s going to be assembled here. I bet it will still be pricey too even though it’s CKD like Honda.

it should be launched middle of 2012. and btw, local toyota distributor decided to produce next gen camry for their own benefit as they no need to wait long to get cars from the thai plant.

thailand also supplies the current camry to several other countries, which caused long waiting period for buyers in malaysia.

umw has been assembling camry for 3 generations before since 1994, so this is nothing new to them.
