Now that the Porsche 911 Turbo has been revealed, the logical next step for Zuffenhausen is the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, and the rag top 911 Turbo has been spotted doing obligatory laps of the Nurburgring. Undisguised, but there’s not much to surprise – it’s a 911 Turbo with a soft top.
Present are the 911 Turbo’s wider body (28 mm wider than on the 911 Carrera 4), full-LED headlights and quad exhausts. The multi twin spoke alloys we see here are also from the coupe, but are painted in black. The 991 has a sleeker and prettier shape than the 997, and this applies to the Turbo Cab as well. By the way, the icon turns 50 this year, and you can see old and new side-by-side in this anniversary gallery.
Mechanicals are likely to be similar. The Turbo is powered by a 3.8 litre six-cylinder engine with direct petrol injection and bi-turbo. Porsche says that it is the only carmaker to offer two turbos with variable turbine geometry for a petrol engine. It makes 520 hp and 660 Nm of torque (710 Nm on overboost) in the Turbo and 560 hp/700 Nm (750 on overboost) in the Turbo S. 0-100 km/h is 3.2 and 3.1 seconds, respectively.
Soon, one can experience that amazing acceleration with the top down. A Frankfurt show debut in September perhaps? Read more and see the 911 Turbo/Turbo S gallery here.
