SPIED: 2016 Porsche 911 facelift – all turbo line-up?

Finally, we are seeing the 2016 Porsche 911 facelift in all its glory. It has just been spotted doing the rounds at the Nurburgring with absolutely no camouflage at all. The rumour mill is in overdrive, and it seems from the simple Carrera to the Turbo S, all 991 models are going to be turbocharged. The GT3 and GT3 RS could be the only models to remain naturally-aspirated.

Rumours are that the updated 991 line-up will feature at least two new turbocharged, flat-six engines. Speculations point to the Carrera version utilising a 2.7 litre engine producing 400 hp, while the Carrera S will have a larger, more powerful 3.4 litre motor.

The interior of the 911 should also be significantly updated, with a new steering wheel and refreshed infotainment system. There are reports that this 911 will use the 918 Spyder’s steering wheel, a bigger display for the infotainment system and a toggle switch mounted on the right-hand side.

It has a new front end that looks quite like the Cayman GT4. There are also updated headlights, thin LED DRLs, new door handles, revised hood over the engines with a lot of vents, an updated rear bumper with new vents and central exhaust pipes too.

It is believed that a public debut for this model is set for mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and sales will likely begin shortly thereafter.

i don’t think 991 will have an all turbo line-up. one of the problem of turbos that the exhaust needs to cool down a bit before heading to the turbo unit, hence the addition of the intercooler.

you can see why the turbo require extra intake at the side to accommodate the intercooler.

but i could be wrong as porsche engineers manage to create magic time and time again….

    • The intercooler doesn’t cool the exhaust but rather the pressurized intake air after it leaves the turbo and before it goes into the engine.

      • Porsche should stick with NA on Jul 21, 2015 at 9:10 am

Intercooler cools the pressurised air from the turbine unit. Air gets hotter after pressurised by the turbo hence cooling it off prior to the intake will get it dense for a proper combustion

  • “Nothing beats displacement” – there I said it! If the report is true, then the pre-facelift 991 will be the last batch of NA-engine Carrera, excluding GT3 variant.
Honestly NA 3.4 liter engine for Carrera (3.8 for Carrera S) is adequate for everyday drive and yet offer exhilaration speed when needed (by Sport Plus mode). easily hit 200 km/h mark on highways :)
Still.. I believe that they will retain the NA engine for Carrera especially when there’s demand from 911 purists

Even if turbocharged, but thankfully they retain flat 6-cylinder configuration engine in their facelift 911 (991 series) which generally produce sweeter and smoother engine sound than turbocharged 4-cylinder turbo engines which sometimes sound rough and trashy when revved.

Nice detailing on the side mirrors. Wonder if its an aero element?

If i cn afford a yellow c2s with black rims and red calipers, it would make the rest of my driving days very special indeed
