Not too long ago, netizens might have stumbled across a video that detailed a horrific hit-and-run collision between a police vehicle and a Volkswagen Polo, the latter driven by a 21-year old Lua Norman. Long story short, the driver was captured piloting a vehicle along Jalan Pudu when he collided into a police vehicle after exiting an underpass. The footage shows the patrol car losing control before coming to a standstill.

Later on, it was discovered that the driver of the Volkswagen Polo was driving under the influence of alcohol – almost three times the legal limit. The two police officers involved in the collision have since forgiven the youth, who has been fined a total of RM4,000.

Earlier, he had claimed trial to losing control of his car while driving drunk, an offence which carried a penalty of a 10-year jail term and a fine of RM20,000. Lua then pleaded guilty after being offered an alternative charge to driving under the influence, which carries a lesser punishment of a maximum of RM6,000 fine and a maximum jail term of 12 months.

This smells of a cover up. Amazing how the fine is lesser than the charge. Perhaps a ‘donation’ was involved.
