Brabus unveils G500 4×4² with 500 hp and 710 Nm

Brabus has certainly gone to town with its latest version of the Mercedes G500 4×4². the ‘Brabus B40-500 PowerXtra’ performance kit for the 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 provides increase of almost 80 hp to 500 hp and high peak torque of 710 Nm between 2,250 and 4,250 rpm.

The SUV is rated for a combined fuel efficiency figure of 13.8 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 323g/km. The performance kit is backed up by Brabus’ tuning warranty of three years, up to 100,000 km.It achieves the century sprint in just 6.9 seconds. Due to the all-out off-road tyres, the top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h.

The centrepiece of the conversion is a plug-and-play control module that is adapted to the electronic engine management system. It recalibrated the electronic boost pressure control and reprogrammed the mapping for injection and ignition.

The seven-speed automatic transmission can be changed manually via aluminium paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The sound emanating from the stainless-steel sport exhaust system with actively controlled butterfly valves can be controlled via a button on the steering wheel.

Drivers can choose from a subtle ‘coming home’ mode and a more robust exhaust note with the ‘sport ‘ position. The dual chrome tailpipes on each side add a nice visual touch. Front bumper panels on the left and right and mirror-polished under-ride guard are the most obvious visual upgrades. It has an additional panel under the radiator grille with the Brabus logo.

The hood scoop, radiator grille and xenon headlamp surrounds are all made from clear-coated carbon. There are LED daytime running lights with chrome surrounds in the front bumper panel too. Under-floor lighting for the running boards can be activated by pulling a door handle or by operating the keyless-entry remote.

In terms of the interior, exclusive fine leather with arrow-shaped quilting from ‘Mastik’ leather and red stitching touches add contrast. It has an Alcantara headiner and other components, such as carbon inlays to add even more highlights. As one steps in to the cabin, stainless steel scuff plates with backlit Brabus logos are apparent. Optional power-retractable steps make getting in and out easier.
