Handicap parking lots in Penang to be painted blue

oku-parking-lot-abused

Parking lots reserved for handicapped motorists will be painted with a blue outline to further differentiate them from regular bays which are painted with yellow outlines instead, according to a report by theSun. MBPP councillor, Chris Lee, commented that said move was meant to further discourage irresponsible drivers from parking in handicap lots now that said bays are more distinguishable.

“This is our initiative to make the island more disabled friendly,” said Lee. The disabled parking lots will measure 6.8 m by 3.6 m to improve access and convenience for those who truly need it. The council is expected to finish painting parking lots in around 38 hotspots by November at the cost of RM250 per bay.

He also added that the council will be more strict with errant drivers who park in handicap lots. “Drivers can be fined RM100 for the offence and may have their cars towed away which will make them liable for a RM100 towing fee,” Lee said. Separately, an earlier report states that motorcyclists who park in handicap lots could be slapped with a fine of RM20 – an increase of RM5.

This is typical crony earning money. Who got the contract? Rm250 per bay? I tong of tin is more than enough for a few bays. RM250 per bay means someone is making money somewhere.

Dont forget, though Opposition runs the Government, 99% of the Government servants and those awarded contracts are BN and BN cronies.

So, who’s gonna get the contract for this job?
Should follow up with strict enforcement too.
Hopefully the Penangites will respect the enforcers. Don’t wanna see a repeat of the case where 2 sohais threw money to the enforcers when their car was clamped due to illegal parking.

RM250 per Bay? How many litres of paint you use? This what happens when you give the jobs to your cronies.

If blue color oso people still parks their car arrogantly, then choose other color lah? Really wasting Rakyat’s money esp the tax payer like me. Oh come on! This is Penang mannn….

There are no rules that can stop ’em.. You fine them, just throw the money and treat the officer like your dog, close case no actions taken.

      Blue paint = RM 50
      White paint = RM 30
      Stencils for lettering = 20
      Labour Cost = RM 100
Safety Cones and Hazard warnings = RM 50

Of course it would be cheaper than that, but who wants to run a business without profit?

Cmon. Since when the paint cost can actually bother u ? Don’t be an idiot. Instead, screw those who parked at those spots. Every time I sees one who parked at those oku spots, I’ll actually posted them online uncensored. Especially those ‘big’ cars who don’t mind paying the fine.

  • Great idea! This makes able-bodied pipu easier to spot the empty spaces and park there long-long time. After all, they pay their taxes more than disabled pipu.
If Pegawai catch them, they have the people’s right to maki-hamun the officers and throw RM50 at them.

250 per bay is indeed high, but not very high. Its good that they provide the costing on the expenses, without any hidden agenda. We do not know for sure which paint they are using. Some parking bays in malls costs about 100-150 as they are special paint that can withstand tyre marks and the contractor can charge less on labour due to high volume of parking bays, so 250 for a gov project seems alright considering low quantity of parking bays worked on.

The punishment for parking in OKU should be higher. Should at least suspend their driving license for ‘P’ license until they go relearn their undang-undang.
