Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport – 385 hp trackster

Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport - 01

Making a world premiere at the 2015 LA Auto Show is the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, based on the Cayman GT4. Designed for those new to the racetrack, the entry-level, track-only sports car weighs in at a total of 1,300 kgs – 40 kg less than the standard car.

The Clubsport will be homologated for global race series such as the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tyre Sports Car Challenge, Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy in the USA, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge in Canada and also club racing by the Porsche Club of America.

In the rear sits a 385 hp 3.8 litre flat-six engine, paired to a modified PDK six-speed double-clutch transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Suspension-wise, it comes fitted with a strut front axle and a lightweight rear strut suspension with transverse arms – the same setup as the 911 GT3 Cup. It also features a race-specified mechanical rear-axle locking differential.

Stopping power is provided through large 380 mm steel brake discs all around. A one-piece, six piston aluminium fixed calipers are in place for the front wheels, while a four-piston one of the same kind, is in the rear. Rims are 18-inch five-bolt forged wheels for the front and rear, wrapped in Michelin racing slicks.

Power steering of the Clubsport is electro-mechanical, in addition to that, the inside features a welded-in rollcage, racing bucket seats and a six-point harness, straight from the factory. The ABS system comes with twelve different settings and as for the Electronic Stability Programme, it has been recalibrated to handle those slick racing tyres.

The North American version of the Clubsport comes with the option of a 70-litre fuel tank or a 100-litre FIA FT3 safety fuel tank. Furthermore, it’s also fitted with a central fire extinguisher system – just in case.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport is available through Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, Germany or Porsche Motorsport North America and it’s priced at USD$165,000 (RM715,350). The Porsche Cayman GT4 in Malaysia, is priced at RM840,000 OTR sans registration fees, road tax, and insurance.
