Michelin Malaysia has begun teasing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on its website. The new performance rubber, which competes against the Continental Sport Contact 6 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, hasn’t been officially launched yet (no pricing and sizes are indicated), but it looks like that will happen very soon – the tyre is already available at Tyreplus outlets, according to the brand’s FB page.
The Pilot Sport 4, introduced to European markets at the start of the year, features an ultra-reactive tread pattern design and also adopts a new compound with specific functional elastomers that improve the distribution of the silica within the rubber mixture and reinforces its action to ensure maximum wet grip and braking. For the former, wide and deep longitudinal grooves ensure a high level of water drainage while rolling over wet roads.
Among the highlights of the new tyre include “Dynamic Response” technology, where a hybrid belt of aramid and nylon helps provide better directional control. The high density, tension resistant and lightweight fibre, which is five times more durable than steel, ensures centrifugal forces at high speeds are perfectly controlled and the tyre contact patch remains constant, even at high speed.
At point of launch, the Pilot Sport 4 was introduced in three profiles – 35, 40 and 45 – and in sizes ranging from 17 to 19 inches, though other sizes should be out by now (word is that it starts from 16 inches). The tyre sits below the Pilot Super Sport, which has just been replaced by the Pilot Sport 4 S; that one should also eventually make its way in.

Does it come in run flats here in Malaysia?
This is a 225/45/ZR 17 tire. Meaning, its for speed up to 240 km/h sports sedan/coupe.
Don’t waste your $$$ buying this tires for normal sedan cars. For comfort/quieter ride, go for the “S” rated tires folks.
The existing Primacy ST3 is one heck of a comfort tyre while the Pilot Sport 3 is one of the best junior sports tyres I’ve tried. The PS3 is not as grippy as the Falkens and Yokos, but very consistent dry and wet grip.
Agree with you targa. Its bcos people like you have used it will understand & appreciate a right tires for the right car usage.
What MC is informing the people is that this PS4 is a “ZR” rated tires that is capable of speed of up to 240 km/h.
The “ZR” rating also tell us that it has a harder side wall hence the ride is harder than a “S” rated tires.
It depends on what kind of Falken and Yokohama you are talking about. I believe the PS3 greatest strength is the fantastic aquaplaning resistance in the rain. It is the best all rounder tyre in terms of balance between comfort, performance and tyre noise , besides plenty of sizes to choose from. Example like Falken FK453 , they only come with minimum 17 inch . So a lot of C segment sedan cannot use with their stock rim. PS3 even 15 inch also have.
It’s already here just ask your friendly tyre shops about it.
Nizzan
Clearly solely targetted at Mazda 6 drivers, only they run 225/45 tyres on 19 and 17 inches.
The Mazda 6 is Not a sports sedan hence this SP 4 “ZR” rated is not targeted for Mazda 6/Accord/Camry/Sonata/K5.
Nothing beats the value of the Bridgestone Potenza RE003 at the moment…it’s all the tyre you need if your ride is below 300 hp
