It’s good news for commuters travelling on the LRT Ampang Line as Rapid KL has announced that beginning this Thursday (December 1, 2016), they can travel directly from the Ampang station to Sentul Timur without having to change trains at Chan Sow Lin station. According to the company, the direct travel has been made possible following completion in the upgrading of the signaling system, as well as the deployment of new trains, which will operate on the line.

“Beginning December 1, the entire Sri Petaling and Ampang Lines will also be using the new six-car AMY trains. The Adtranz trains that had been used since 1996 and serving the Ampang Line now, will be completely decommissioned,” said Rapid Rail CEO, Datuk Ir. Zohari Sulaiman in a statement.

Prasarana, the parent to Rapid Rail, has acquired a total of 50 new six-car trains from CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive, China to serve the LRT Ampang and Sri Petaling Lines, including the 11 new stations that are part of the extension project. As of current, 45 train sets have already been delivered to Rapid Rail, and the remaining five sets are currently being assembled at the CRRC plant in Batu Gajah, Perak, due for delivery in stages by January next year.

Introduced in stages since October last year, the new six-car AMY trains first served along the Sri Petaling Line extension, covering the first four new stations – Awan Besar, Muhibbah, Alam Sutera and Kinrara BK5 to Sri Petaling – before being extended to IOI Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Taman Perindustrian Puchong and Bandar Puteri stations from March 31.

    • The Star line trains could have lasted longer but the kompeni that built them bankrap, so cannot get spare parts anymore. In contrast to Putra/KJ line bombardiers that still robotically run everyday.
