Big adventure bikes are really popular, based on the sales figures of the BMW Motorrad GS1200-series machines and the resurgence of the legendary Honda Africa Twin. But what of Yamaha and its XT1200Z Super Tenere?
A report has emerged via online magazine advrider about Yamaha’s plans to produce an 850 cc, three-cylinder 115 hp adventure-styled machine. Such an offering would enter a market currently populated by machines such as the BMW Motorrad F800 GS (RM61,900) and Triumph Tiger 800 (XrX – RM66,900).
Despite the Yamaha MT-09 Tracer (RM59,900) being in the Yamaha catalogue, the Tracer is a dual-purpose styled tourer with a road-bias. In the case of the more off-road oriented Tenere-series, there has long been a gap in Yamaha’s line-up for a mid-sized, do-anything, go-anywhere, long-travel suspension machine.
Using the 849 cc triple from the MT-09 sense, and this ties-in with the showing of the Yamaha T7 Tenere Concept at the EICMA show in Milan, last year. The T7 Tenere Concept takes the 689 cc, 74.8 PS Crossplane 2 engine from the Yamaha MT-07, fitted into a super-tall, lifted frame rolling on a 21-inch front wheel.

It wouldn’t be surprised ye olde tenere 650 is replaced by the mt07 powerplant and a new mid tier tenere slot at mt09 powerplant
But doubt yamaha themselves gonna replace the iconic 1200 tenere itself
It will be very nice 850cc motorcycle .. I think a minus of Yamaha will be eliminated .. I will be waiting with curiosity .. Especially if the price performance is good ..
