Here is the official highlights video for the 2017 Malaysian Speed Festival (MSF) round one. Held at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on February 26, the inaugural round saw 147 cars competing in 12 categories, watched by close to 5,000 fans.
Previously known as Saturday Night Fever (SNF), MSF, as a one-day race series, has always delivered close-quarters racing, with both amateur and professional drivers going door-to-door on the track using production-based racing cars. Races are held across two heats of five laps each.
In the premier Race Cars Open category, Keifli Othman of Mayhem-Fast Auto won with a time of 11:54.272 on the full SIC course. For the hotly contested Saga Cup Expert, Boy Wong of ST Wangan took top honours, clocking 14:38.009.
The distaff side of MSF racing was also well represented, with Geraldine Read of Dream Chaser coming in first in the Race Cars 1600 class with a time of 14:02.879 alongside co-driver Ong Chee Long. Another lady racer, Chai Pao Weei, driving in the Saga Cup Novice category with co-driver Choo Yoong Chon under the Ngah Motorsports banner, finished first in 14:52.563.
As drivers and teams take stock of their performance and results in round one, preparations are already taking place for the second round of MSF at SIC on April 16. Fans wanting to get into the thick of the action can purchase paddock tickets at RM20 before 11 am on April 16, and RM35 after. Menerusi perlumbaan seperti ini harap dapat mengesan bakat muda dan berpotensi sebagai pelapis untuk bersaing di pentas antarabangsa.
Syabas Sepang!
Too much of wiralution, wonder they have reinforced their ride for enough safety precautions and protections?
proton should have sponsored a one make race using new Saga. what i know is cars bought for racing purposes are not subject to taxes and thus should make the car prices down very low. something like 15-20k. racing teams do not need power windows, alloy wheels, ABS, airbags, spare tyres, radios, aircond, reverse sensor, carpets, rooflining and passenger seats.
some example of one make race is Renault Clio cup in UK and France. Toyota Yaris in UK and Toyota Vios in Thailand.
My proton tiara is the best! Hope I can bring it to the race track and burN some rubber..
All car required to meet certain safety requirement. Not just for “wiralution”. Some might be the real Evo not wiralution. hihi.
