The police won’t be the only enforcement authority conducting traffic safety operations this upcoming festive season. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced it will be placing 38 Enforcement Based Stations (EBS) along all major highways to carry out continuous and comprehensive monitoring of traffic during Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.
According to JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron, the EBS check-points are part of the department’s 2017 Ops HRA, which began on Sunday and runs until July 2, similar to Ops Selamat 11/2017 being carried out by the police.
The exercise will see JPJ personnel conducting patrols along routes that have been identified as accident-prone, Bernama reports. “Other than becoming check-points for the personnel, EBS will also become inspection areas if the patrol team detected motorists committing offences. We will also issue summonses at EBS if the vehicles stopped by the patrolmen have committed offences,” he said.
He said a total of 3,128 officers and personnel will be on duty throughout the duration of the operation, and added that the EBS locations will include toll plazas at Tangkak, Rawang, Ipoh and Sungai Dua.
