QUICK LOOK: Honda Sensing on the 2017 Honda CR-V

The 2017 Honda CR-V is set for its Malaysian introduction sometime next month, and the arrival of the fifth-gen SUV will also see Honda Sensing making its local debut. A few elements from the suite of safety technologies was showcased to the motoring press at a special preview event last week.

Aimed at providing driver- or safety-related assistance functions, Honda Sensing groups six items under its umbrella, working with the help of a monocular camera mounted behind the windscreen and a millimetre wave radar – with an effective range of about 100 metres – located on the front grille.

Our video takes a quick look at the components available in the mix, namely Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the last being combined with a Low Speed Follow (LSF) function.

The Sensing suite will be available on the range-topping 1.5L VTEC Turbo Premium 2WD variant, which also comes with Lanewatch. The CR-V will also go on sale here in regular 1.5L VTEC Turbo AWD and a 1.5L VTEC Turbo 2WD forms as well as in a solitary normally-aspirated 2.0L i-VTEC 2WD guise.

Don’t worry snowflake, you still get 4 wheels if you buy one.If only you afford one.Why should Honda listen to you? It proved that Honda acknowledged our road conditions good enough for daily and long term usage. Why should add more unnecessary expense? Such a wasteful behaviour and emotionally bad practices.Typical Malaysian!

Why can’t the top spec be either AWD or FWD so that people can choose. Having AWD as a non top spec is pretty unintelligent decision from the buyers’ perspective.

  • We were informed that the top model will be a 1.5 Turbo 2WD + Honda Sensing. This really a shame. It should have been the 1.5 Turbo AWD + Honda Sensing. The were all together 4 variants according to early reports

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2
  • We were told that the variants are :-
    i) 2.0L 2WD
    ii) 1.5 Turbo 2WD
    iii) 1.5 Turbo AWD
    iV) 1.5 Turbo 2WD + Honda Sensing

It’s quite a surprise that the top model is the 1.5 Turbo 2WD + Honda Sensing. It should have been the 1.5 Turbo AWD + Honda Sensing.

A better range would have been :-
    i) 2.0L 2WD
    ii) 1.5 Turbo 2WD + Honda Sensing
    iii) 1.5 Turbo AWD
iV) 1.5 Turbo AWD + Honda Sensing

It’s also a shame that Honda did not consider the 7-seater being fit for Malaysians. The Thais, Indonesians and Australians get the 7-seater. I am a 2015 Honda Accord 2.4 owner and after hearing so much about the new CR-V 7-seater, I am actually looking forward to getting another Honda, the AWD 7-seater + Honda Sensing version. But now, disappointed.

Xtrail ugly, period. This SUV meant for on road, not heavy duty jungle tracks.Furthermore consider on Malaysia small market it is not practical to bring in all variants like Indonesia or Thai markets.Best for Honda think which variant ideal for local demand.

With the addition of CRV, Honda is cementing its position as no.1 non national car brand in Malaysia. Of course, only in Malaysia. Not in any other place on earth.

  • I’m sceptical honda sensing going to be practical for our type of driving culture where bikes just zipping between cars and others cutting ques. Most likely to be a nuisance.

  • If rumours r true, then HM seems to be placing their most advanced variant in between specs. Started with Jazz FL.
