Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription open for booking – CKD plug-in hybrid sedan priced at RM348,888

Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription open for booking – CKD plug-in hybrid sedan priced at RM348,888

We’ve been aware of this for some time, but now it’s official – Volvo Car Malaysia has announced the opening of order books for the S90 T8 Twin Engine. The most powerful plug-in hybrid version of Gothenburg’s flagship sedan will be offered in range-topping Inscription trim, matching the XC90.

As such, the car will have higher level of specification compared to the existing T5 Momentum and T6 AWD R-Design variants. Locally assembled (CKD) in Shah Alam to take advantage of Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) incentives, the S90 T8 will retail at an introductory price of RM348,888 on-the-road without insurance.

That’s a massive RM40,000 cheaper than even the base T5 and a whole RM105,000 less than the T6, although both these models are fully imported (CBU). Included in the price is Volvo’s usual five-year/120,000 km warranty. It should be noted, however, that the early-bird pricing will only be available for orders confirmed before October 31, according to local dealers.

At its heart lies the same engine as the T6 – a 2.0 litre Drive-E four-cylinder engine that’s both turbocharged and supercharged to improve low-end response and boost outputs to 320 hp at 5,700 rpm and 400 Nm between 2,200 and 5,400 rpm. All that is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Paired to this powertrain is an 87 hp/240 Nm rear-mounted electric motor that provides the car with all-wheel drive; there’s also a crankshaft-mounted starter generator (CISG) sandwiched between the engine and gearbox to assist in acceleration from a standstill or low speeds.

Total system output is rated at 407 hp and 640 Nm, propelling the S90 T8 from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The car is also capable of a combined fuel consumption figure of 2.0 litres per 100 km, carbon dioxide emissions of 46 grammes per kilometre and an all-electric range of 50 km on the European NEDC cycle.

Given the higher trim level, expect the T8 to mirror the XC90’s equipment count and come with a few bits of kit that were excluded from the current CBU models – including four-zone automatic climate control (up from two-zone) and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Volvo’s full suite of Intellisafe driver assistance systems and Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving features should also be offered as standard, as they are now.

Still very expensive for Malaysian standards. Don’t forget, according to EPF stats, 78.3% of all their contributors only earn RM1500 and below. That is the majority of earners in Malaysia.

Where is our Government’s promise to reduce car prices by 30%? Already Malaysia has the highest car prices in the world.

Well malaysia clearly doesn’t have the highest car prices on the planet as we only have to cross the causeway to find car prices that make ours look like chicken feed. In fact with the EEV and hybrid subsidies, malaysia is the cheapest place on the planet to purchase cars such as the S90 and XC90 Plug in hybrids

        Ha, ha, ha,

Tristar badged is selling cheaper and use by most countries as Taxi . how could it be having more Prestige.
You can pay RM 20 for a taxi ride in a Mercedes in europe countries without feeling it is prestige at all.

Only third world mentality people think Mercedes is prestige which is not anymore. Cars are sold on advanced technology and good design nowadays.

Resale value is a thing of the past.
New cars carries better technology and a lot faster and more frugal with fuel . resale value will put you stuck yourself with outdated technology like in Toyota and suzuki cars currently

Even German chancellor was chauffeur in AUDI A6 as official car.

So i do not see more prestige in a mercedes anymore as it is just another commoner european car.

So OWNING A MERCEDES got gaya but no standard .

          • Correct bro. Deswai those who dun have luxury car dunno whats it all about. They think is the high price that makes it prestigious. Fact is, its never about the price or value for money. Its about the brand aristocracy throughout the decades.
Otherwise, a Lexus/Infiniti wud have tapau C/E keras long ago. Them cavemen will and can never understand this.

Just a guess, not concrete, do correct my observation if I’m wrong. Thanks.

Could be the difference in which Volvo and BMW/Mercedes couples their electric motors.

Volvo has the petrol engine running the front wheels while the electric motors are running the rear wheels.

BMW & Mercedes on the other hand has both petrol engine and electric motors powering the same wheels/axels etc.

If its a lower category then why it is acclaimed world wide. and at the same price point also. The fact that this car got nominated for luxury car of the year alongside the e class and 5 series is impressive. Journalists seems to like the design exterior and interior compared to the germans.

        • I do not think Merc and BMW are prestige cars anymore .Personally Volvo are making better cars now than the Merc or BMW

I live in ASEAN REGION but my thinking is positive and 1st world.

only third world mentality people living in ASEAN REGION will think Merc and BMW is good.

I would just HELL BIG NO , NO

MERCEDES AND BMW are actually European scraps in malaysia cos of so many grey importers .

Malaysian hotels let mercedes parked in front because most of them are limousine cars. Again Mercedes are being driven by taxi driver and very low prestige compare to VOLVO AND BMW

I seen many rich man never drive merc and BMW . Only half way rich or not much money try to show themselves in few years old Merc and BMW
          junk.

Merc and BMW are not great or better cars anymore . problematic cars
