The Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI) and Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to streamline and intensify lower carbon mobility initiatives in the country.
The deal was signed during the ongoing International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017) event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The MoU is a rationalisation of both parties’ goals, with GreenTech aiming to increase electric vehicle rollout initiatives. It is also the owner of the ‘chargEV’ charging network, which has numerous charging stations currently in operation.
Meanwhile, MAI’s goal is to transform Malaysia into a regional Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) hub, which includes the manufacturing and distribution of vehicles with efficient internal combustion engines (ICE) and electrified powertrains. The latter includes hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell electric vehicles.
“Despite the specialisations of MAI and GreenTech Malaysia, we often find commonality in our goals, knowledge and resource pool. This MoU is a great example of collaboration and reduced duplication of limited resources towards the pursuit of greater technology penetration in our ecosystem,” said Datuk Madani Sahari, CEO of MAI.
With the signing of the MoU, there will be more cross-ministerial collaboration between MAI and GreenTech Malaysia, which will include information and research exchange, raising public awareness and adapting green manufacturing and production certification for OEM and vendors in the country.

They just rebadge. No research at all. Proton even better….don’t know what their engineers do in office but Proton dare to ask Government to pay them RM18 billion in research.
Hello Proton and MAI, if you research, you should be having a Hybrid by now, if not an EV or PHEV

Wanna know how the govt treats the players? See Volvo, the first car assembler in Msia, export to ASEAN, yet govt don’t even know they have a plant in Shah Alam all these while.
And we wonder why carmakers rather go open factory in Thailand, Indonesia. Jasamu langsung tak dikenang.
